Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello everyone!  Let me first say that we are pretty new to this site but think it is absolutely wonderful!

We had gotten a goldendoodle, Fenway about 5 weeks ago and all of his housetraining is complete and he is doing wonderful.  We could not ask for a better dog!

Last week, we decided to get a second goldendoodle from a different breeder.  We are trying the same type of training (crate training) for her and it's not going nearly as well.  She, Taylor, pees and poops in the crate whenever she is in it.  She will potty outside most times we bring her outside which is many times per day but every day and night that she is in the crate, she poops.  Most of the daytime she is in the pen or even with Fenway playing so it's not like she's in the crate all of the time.

Her stools are loose and the breeder was giving her terrible food (Blue Seal) which we changed gradually to a better quality food.

She is so  happy, playful, loving and a snugglebug but she always craps in her crate...what is the issue.  I hear that puppies never poop where they sleep.

Any ideas??

Thank you all so much!

Thank you!  I am a clean freak so I have been very diligent about cleaning the crate.

Thanks again for your time.

How much space does she have - it should not be enough to "get away" from the poop?
Thanks so much for answering!  :)

Good Luck, I watched your video of the two of them playing....so friggen cute.

Might I ask what prompted the 2nd Doodle so quickly...we only have one but she was so much work as a puppy I know I wouldn't have been brave enough for two. She is the perfect dog now.

We were thinking of 2 when we bought Fenway and just didnt do it for some reason.  We then came across Taylor and just figured we were ready.  No regrets...we understand that she is just a puppy and we have a lot of patience.  Fenway loves her so much already.  It is really amazing to see how well they play together already.  This morning, they were actually sharing their food with each other.  Fenway would take a few bites and then with his nose, pass the bowl to Taylor and vice versa.  I wasn't prepared with the camera so I was not able to capture it with the camera.
Great suggestions already, so I will just say that both of your pups are adorable, and good luck!

Cute pictures!  If she has loose stools it could also be the rawhide.  I am not a fan of rawhide but I do know how much a puppy wants to chew.  I recommend doing a search on rawhide in these forums.  The puppy group might also have lots of recommendations.  I have learned so much on this site and it is worth the time spent learning from this wealth of information.  All the best!

Small crate is a big thing.  Also, just out of curiosity, is she on any antibiotics?  I ask because I had the same problem the first two weeks we had Gracie Doodle home.  She didn't poop in the crate but would pee.  I reduced the crate so far down that she could barely turn around.  Then we had our first appointment with the trainer.  She came to the house, I told her my problem and she asked if Gracie was on antibiotics.  Why yes she was and still is for a few more days!  She was being treated for a parasite even though she had been dewormed at the breeders.  The trainer said that the antibiotics act like diuretics and the puppy can't help it.  That must be why no poops in the crate for us.  Sorry...that is the only experience and answer I have.  Good Luck
Hi!  do you have a crate with a divider?  Perhaps the crate is too big and the 'extra' space is allowing her an area to 'go'.  so cute!  Good luck!
No advice, but they sure are adorable!
Make sure the crate is small enough.  Limit her food and drink in the evening. Get up in the night and take her potty.
They are both beautiful and look like a puppy that was in my labradoodle's litter a few months ago! Gorgeous and so friendly to each other--how nice for all of you! I read all of the responses and I agree with all of the advice--but especially the RAWHIDE. I know it is all over the pet stores and grocery stores, so dogs must be eating it all the time, but it is keeping the vets in business---very bad stuff--and all from China! Who knows what is in there?? You can get a better chew toy--like a kong filled with a bit of peanut butter or cheese--or get cow hooves--they love them! Yes, they are real cow hoof trimmings--the pups can chew to their heart's content. They sell them in pet stores and online, but I would recommend that you so do not get any filling in them--just get plain hooves, so that you can add your own filling. The filled ones are full of junk food--lots of sugar--yuck!! You might find that Taylor poops less and has more control once you get her diet in order. Another thing that helps with intestinal health is a bit of pure pumpkin (buy it in cans in the cooking aisle of your grocery store, but make sure it doesn't have any "Pie spices" in it.) My dogs love it and it keeps their stools firm.
