For fun, I was wondering if anyone has tried this formula.  I know it's probably not super accurate.  My dog was predicted to be 30 to 40 pounds and this formula is saying 66 pounds for him.  My vet originally said 70 pounds but he only had one weight and said he needed two on the chart to make a good estimate.  I laughed and said NO WAY and he said he seems to have a large frame and he'll be shocked if he's under 60 pounds.  I think the joke may be on me.  Funny thing is, I was worried he'd be smaller then I wanted.  Don't get me wrong, I will love my Lil Henry Wadsworth no matter how big he is!  It's exciting watching him grow, we can't believe how big he has already gotten.

 

So, I just was curious if anyone punched in a puppy weight they had and it came out to be pretty close.  Here is the formula, which is pretty basic.  My husband emailed it to me, so I am not sure where he got it.  So, if it's totally wrong blame him!  HA HA

 

(Weight Now / Weeks Old) X 52 =  Expected Grown Weight.

 

Henry would be:  14 Pounds / 11 weeks = 1.27 x 52 =  66 LBS

I don't think it is correct either.  I have my puppy's weight recorded accurately from the time he was 16 weeks old and if I divide the weight by the number of weeks, I get anything from 1.26 to 1.4 for the ratio of pounds/weeks.  Multiplying those numbers by 52, I get anywhere from 65 to 70 pounds.  He is an ALD and I was expecting him to weigh about 50 to 55 pounds max.  I really don't think adding from 10 - 20 pounds is going to be accurate.  Anyway, I hope not.  His weight at 16 weeks was 20.7 pounds and if you double that and add 10 pounds that would be about 50 to 55 pounds.  More what we expect.  I would use the 16 weeks, double and add ten pounds.

It comes pretty close for our girls. Daisy hit 35 lbs at 6 months and stopped growing. She held at 35-36 lbs for the next 2+ years. Last time we weighed her she was 38 lbs. (winter weight?) The formula said 39 lbs.

We got Maggie from the same breeder and expected her to be about the same. She just turned two and is holding at 70 lbs.

According to the formula, she would be 69 lbs.

According to the calculation, Lucy should be 68.25lbs as an adult. She's 17 months now and virtually fully grown and weighs 46.5lbs.

 

Using the other formula, doubling her weight at 16wks and adding up to 10lbs is more accurate, although adding the full 10lbs is 7-1/2lbs too much.

A more accurate formula, at least for Lucy, is, double her weight at 4 months = full grown weight.

I really think the bigger a dog will ultimately get, the slower it is to mature, so no one formula will work for every sized dog.

I was also told the weight at 4 months x 2 +10...

I am waiting to see if that is accurate or not.  Oscar is 50 lbs at 6 months.

He was 26.8 at 16 weeks so he should be 63.6 according to this...  We shall see!

Right now he just keeps on growing and growing and growing...

Simon is a standard ALD. He came to live with me @ 16 weeks. The vet told me a good rule of thumb to get an approx adult weight was weight @ 4 months X 2, then add 5-10 lbs depending on the size of the breed.

Simon weighed 23.4 lbs x 2= 46.8+5lbs= 51.8....he weighs in between 51.5 and 52 lbs @ 23 months

I can't apply the formula to Connor because he was a puppy mill rescue who was so underweight when I got him it was scary. 

 

I'd guess your baby might weigh around 40-42 lbs full grown.

Your formula would have Porter be 93.  He is 73, and should be 65-70.  Every time I put him on a diet, he kills an animal in my backyard!

Chloe was predicted to be about 30 lbs as well...sort of a mini  Her mom was a 50lb golden and her dad was a 10lb poodle.  When we took her to the vet when she was a puppy they guessed about 60 lbs.  We also chuckled and said really?!  She's 1 yr and 4 months and now ways 65 lbs :)

Surprise, surprise!!!....I think these F1's they are not very predictable. The weight range amongst Lucca's litter ranged from 30-45 lbs. His younger and older siblings (same parents, different litter) range up to 60 lbs. Also, look at the coat variation within one litter. We know 6 from Lucca's litter and they are all different. Izzy's litter of 4...3 are wavy..and she is working on her coat. I call it a work in progress. They ALL looked the same the day we picked them out!!!! No matter what...we love these furry doods!!!:-) But it is very interesting how they develop

Charlie (F1 GD) was 23lbs. at 16 weeks...double it and add ten would make him 56lbs. full grown.  He will be 9 months in two days and I just weighed him..he is 55lbs.  Is he done growing???

HA!  Sounds like mine, the dad was a 50 pound retriever and the mom was an 18 pound standard poodle and I was told 30 to 40.  I was OK and hoping for a little bigger so I am good with it.  I think my wish is gonna be granted.  :D
