Jennifer T., fellow DKer, lives in the TN area as I do and has already posted a discussion on this.

However, I just had to bring it up again!  How many DK members are experiencing the cicada explosion?  We have a 13-year cicada and this is the 13th year and they are EVERYWHERE.  I heard that dogs love them and I fully expected Peri to hunt for them (and she does).  But Taquito? My little delicate chihuahua putting one of these in his mouth??? NEVER!

Really friends, these things are nasty - they are 1 - 1 1/2" and TAQUITO EATS THEM MORE THAN PERI! What is up with that?  I told Peri to get one that was sitting on our porch. She passed it up and let Taquito have it.  Picture Taquito with it in his mouth, wings flapping outside and him taking a few chomps and a big swallow.  YUCK.  Gasp...not my Taquito!!!!

And to think they come out of these exoskelatons (that live underground for 13 years)!

NO this is not a joke.  Please tell me some other doods and their siblings are doing this.  Peri and Taquito both had about 3 on their walk yesterday - just an appetizer before their meals :)

And BTW, vet says they are fine to eat, just not too many and make sure they are having their daily poos.  Yuck.

hmm maybe he thinks they are doggie 'tater chips.
Oh boy, this is one of those times I'm happy I live in Ireland.  No Cicadas, No Alligators, No Bears, No Snakes, No Skunks, no Heartworm, no Mosquitos.  I'm sure there's lots we do have but those critters above OMG they are so yuk looking which means they are probably very tasty! LOL
No mosquitos???  Wow.  I would have thought there were everywhere.  But I didn't see any gulls in Kauai, and I thought they were everywhere too.
Very occasionally if we get a hot summer we might get a few mozzies but I can't remember when the last time was.  Ireland is free from all those dangerous critters, the worst animal you might encounter is a drunk man who wants to 'sing' to you for the night!.
HaHaHa....I LOVE Ireland!
Um, there is goosebumps all over my arms. Not a bug fan.

UGH~  I've checked our area and we are not due for a few more years here.  I dread it.  I recall nearly 30 years ago or so"?  sleeping outside in the forest......OMG, they were dropping like leaves onto us sleeping. UGH.  we ended up sleeping in the car!  it bothers me more now because we live in the mountain surrounded by forest every which way... wish us luck when the time comes.  and I wish you luck today1

My dogs eat them, my kids play with them.  My dogs like to eat the shed skins - they get flustered when they end up with a live bug.  The kids like the shell and the bug.

The mental pic of Taquito with wings sticking out is really making me giggle!

Hahaha...cicadias are about to be a segment on the nbc nightly news.
Those look totally disgusting!  There is no way I could live anywhere where they were flying around.  I'm sure they fly right into you or land on you.  I would have had a heart attack by now and no way is my Gracie Doodle ever gonna eat a bug and then kiss me!!!  My skin crawls just looking at those bugs!!!  How long do they stick around?
A long, long time, Nance.
We have gazillions (yes, more than millions haha) of them in Charlotte. However, Finley ignores them unless they are flying around in which case they scare him. He does love the taste of what I like to call goose pate' or otherwise known as goose poo. That really drives me crazy because when we walk it is like maneuvering around a mine field to keep him from eating it-YUCK. I guess every dog has their own delicacies!
