Oh, it's horrible!
Last year on Mother's Day (no connection at all to what we were doing, it was simply a coincidence of the calendar), we decided to go down to visit pups at a local breeder. We just wanted to see these Australian Labradoodles in action see if we really wanted one at all. Well, needless to say, we were smitten immediately. I had to wait 3 weeks for my pup.
I thought I was going to die from the anxiety of it. First, I didn't know if I was going to get the puppy I had my heart set on or if I would have to choose another from the litter. Then, when I did find out, I had to wait another two weeks to pick up my pup. Oh, but that's not all....on the way there, an accident happened about a quarter of a mile in front of me and I had to wade through that to get off the freeway. UGH!
I finally got my pup,tho. Here's a picture:
OK....three weeks isn't bad. But then we decided we wanted a pup from the same mom in December, that was bungled because we realized we just couldn't take on a pup calendar-wise, so we deferred to a different mom, but the breeding didn't take. So now we were stuck. The litter from Sam's mom was all spoken for, and we were looking to wait for approximately 12 months to get the pup we wanted.
My thoughts about waiting? It stinks. But I'd so prefer to wait than get a dog that's not a good match.
In the meantime, I would recommend reading every book you can get your hands on (if you need the education...I know I did!) and occupy yourself with obsessive blog reading (such as mine! LOL...or this one!).
If you have picked your breeder and you trust them and know you are going to get a great dog, waiting is a good thing. It's hard, but it gives you the best outcome.
We should finally get our new pup after waiting about 6 months. It's a long time for us, but I know we will be super happy with our new baby. :-)
Enjoy and visit me some times. You'll get to see some great pictures of Sam. :-)
I need to live next to you and just do what you did..
Here's my pup (Jackson) at 5 weeks old yesterday! Three more weeks to go!

Jackson is sooo cute! Keep us posted!
awh...thanks, Connie! Honey pot....as is Bocelli!!!
it is like being pregnant, except you don't have to get up at night to go to the bathroom a million times. We put our deposit down in January and hoped there would be a Lilly in the litter in June. We lucked out and there was a Lilly or we would have had to wait until next year. We will meet her on July 9th and will bring her home the first weekend in August.
I spent the time reading everything I could find and bought toys.:) The dog will have almost as many many toys as my kids did when they were little. We still have to buy a crate and collar/lead, but holding off to see what size. The breeder suggested a special food, and we will buy that later in the month.
This site is wonderful for those of us that are awaiting for our furbabies.
