I HAVE BEEN DEBATING ON CHANGING GUNNER’S FLEA PREVENTATIVE. I HAVE USED FRONTLINE PLUS FOR MANY YEARS WITH SUCCESS, BUT I HAVE HEARD THIS YEAR FROM SEVERAL PEOPLE INCLUDING VET’S THAT IT IS NO LONGER WORKING AS IT USED TO. I AM CONSIDERING USING COMFORTIS. I AM TORN BECAUSE I HEAR MOSTLY SUCCESS STORIES & LOTS OF "NOTHING WORKS BETTER", HOWEVER I HAVE ALSO READ WHERE IT HAS BEEN SERIOUSLY DAMAGING TO CERTAIN DOGS, EVEN CAUSING SEIZURES/DEATH. IT ALSO CONCERNS ME BECAUSE MY VET DOESN’T EVEN SELL IT, THEY SAY THEY SAW TOO MANY DOGS HAVE REACTIONS TO IT ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO, BUT NOTHING FATAL-THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF. COULD ANY OF YOU THAT ARE CURRENTLY USING COMFORTIS CHIME IN & GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS & IF IT HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL OR NOT? THANK YOU ALL!

Rooney took Comfortis for a few months but it doesn't provide tick protection - only flea.  So we switched to Advantix so that we have flea and tick.  My vet likes the comfortis if you have cats - because if your cat licks your dog after flea and tick application it can kill them.
Charlie has been on Comfortis for a few years now.  He was previously on Frontline and it wasn't working as I found several fleas on him while he was using it.  We have not had any problems with the Comfortis.  But like Jane said, it doesn't provide tick protection.  We haven't had any ticks yet so we are still using the Comfortis.  The only problem with the Comfortis is that Charlie HATES the taste of it.  I have to hide it in something and if he even gets a slight smell of it he won't take the treat it is hidden in.  It is a large pill so I have to break it into several pieces to get it hidden well enough.  But it does seem to work very well on the fleas.

I just switched Jack off of k9 advantix to Comfortis after reading the link someone posted on Green Paws. Comfortis is least toxic of all flea medications. I do not know how it works yet. For ticks I bought Centry all natural flea and tick prevention that I will put on him to keep the ticks off.

I will be interested to see what others say!!

We have been using Comfortis on both Lexi and Bily for the past 18 months. I have never seen a flea on them and they have had no reaction to it.  Billy eats the tablet with no problem, I have  to break it and make Lexi swallow it, but it is no problem.

Our Vet suggested we change and since our grandson is often near them I like the idea that he is not exposed to an external poison nor are the Doodles. They tend to go for the neck area when playing and would be exposed to an external treatment and could ingest the chemical as well.

I've been using Comfortis for several months.  It's the ONLY thing that worked for fleas on Trav.  For months BC (before Comfortis) I tried everything I could find, all the topicals (Frontline & Advantix), shampoos, natural remedies, etc. and nothing worked.  Comfortis killed all fleas on the dog within four hours, just as promised.  That and a premise spray I got at the vet's office for spraying the house has gotten rid of the fleas.  Well, I think there are still a few in the house, or getting tracked in from outside, but they're not on Trav.  As mentioned by others, Trav doesn't like it and I have to grind it up and hide it in something special to get him to eat it, but I do that most thankfully!  He hasn't had any bad reactions to the Comfortis.  I order it online from Drs. Smith & Foster.  If you order it from them, they need your vet's name & fax number, as it needs a prescription ok'd by your vet.  Then they mail the product to you--which has arrived within a week or so.
Is this a NEW thing with Frontline Plus?? Did they change the formula? We haven't had any problems so far and used it for 4 years???
I have been using the Comfortis for the last 2 years with my guys, and have had no problems at all.  Haven't seen a flea in all that time.  I use a tic collar for them, and they have had no tics either...I like it because there is no greasy feel to the fur like there is with the topical...And they both would howl and run in circles when I used the topical.  they both have no problems taking the pill, so we are very pleased with it.
Bernie's always been on Comfortis, I appreciate that our vet likes it for its low toxicity. On Bernie's first appt., a day after bringing him home, he had a couple fleas on him, thankful the vet decided to look for them. We haven't had issues since, so I'm sold!
We changed Jasper to Comfortis about 9 months ago as Frontline Plus wasn't doing the job. We haven't had any problems with it and Jasper chews it up. Our Vet likes it  but insists it must be given with the main meal of the day or just after or it may cause vomiting in some dogs. We are not in a tick area though we check him especially after trips to the park and when we take him on holidays we will add or change to a tick medication for the timebeing. A friend has also changed to it and his dog is Diabetic and has had no problems.
I may just have to switch. There are all good reports here. If you read the reviews on-line they are not positive at all. I was too scared to switch over. In my vet's office, they tried it on their own dogs first and one had the vomiting, the other was fine. Sounds like taking it with food would help alleviate that problem.
I'm sure the full meal is key. Our vet said to always give it with a full meal. Since I'm very type A we've never NOT given it with a full meal and it's been smooth sailing! Bernie doesn't mind the taste of the pill at all, so I just toss it in his dish with dinner and viola! I get a horribly upset stomach whenever I take a vitamin, medication, etc. on an empty stomach so I can sympathize with the doggies that end up getting sick!
I have used Fronline for about 12or 13 yrs now.  2 yrs ago all of a sudden we had a MAJOR flea problem.  We were infested, and it was the first time ever.  I talked to my vet and he said that maybe the fleas over the yrs had build up a resistance to Fronline because it was a very big problem for everyone not just me.  I battled and battled to no avail.  I finally called my vet back for suggestions, and they suggested the Comfortis and in two wks hit with frontline, to get a handle on the problem.  I did this for 2 months and now back to just frontline plus with no problems since.  Ill tell you though, it says that it kills all the fleas in about an hr.  That is not a lie, within an hour they were falling off in buckets...it was gross, but it did work.  I have learned in researching Comfortis, that most reactions in dogs were vomiting.  Just make sure you give it on a full stomach, I did and both of my dogs were fine.
