I see so many cute names here that I just have to wonder...where they came from.

Molly is named after a very good friend of mine whom I adore.  Our lab Bear was named by his first family and we decided to keep it since he knew it was his.  Heidi was my mom's doxie who now has her forever home with us.

So if you don't mind sharing....how did you pick your puppies names?

Ellen!  I LOVE Creme Brulee as well!  If our dog was going to be a merle coloring, I wanted to use Brulee as well.... but we got a Black doodle.  Brulee just didn;t fit... next one maybe.  Although if we got a boy I would name him Cobber.. as that means buddy, or pal (mate) in 'Australianese" - LOL

Mattie was named Addie when we got her--she looked more like a Matilda to us, then it got shortened. Funny thing is, she never has a Mat in her hair! Lyric already had her name and it suits her perfectly, so we kept it--took some getting used to, as we wouldn't have picked it ourselves, but I like it now. I named Rio but the full name is Ebano Avorio (Italian for Ebony and ivory) since he is black and white and when he lays down the colors alternate like Piano keys, which were made of ebony and ivory way back when--remember the song by that name? It also works because we live on a creek and he is always in it--Rio means river in spanish, so it all fits him. I also wanted something with an O sound so that the three dogs would have an easy time telling which name was which when I give them commands. So far, so good.

PS I had to go through MANY names before DH would agree also--he liked Rio, so Rio it was.

Thanks for starting this discussion! I like reading these stories.

I had prepared 3 beautiful names for the day when we went for our GD girl. In the car on our way back we realized that we had to start it all over b/c we had gotten a boy. :)

We tried many names and couldn't agree: what I liked my DH didn't like at all and vice versa. At the end of the day, I was looking at the puppy and the color of his ears reminded me cognac. Camus!

Camus's coat will shade for sure but I think his ears will keep some of this cognac color.

Love reading all the stories on name picking!

To make ours a long story short, I had always wanted a dog and finally the time was right. DH and I just moved into our house with a huge fenced backyard, I had time off in between school and starting my career and we were financially stable(somewhat). Needless to say DH was not a dog lover, he actually was somewhat afraid of them, and we still had lots of renos to do on the house, so he kaibosched it(if that's how you spell it), lol :). Well I cried and begged and when that didn't work I secretly contacted the only doodle breeder in saskatchewan and she had just one deposit open! Finally DH said yes, but he wanted a boy, turns out there was only a girl left, I wanted a girl, so we decided to go ahead. (Now you can see who wears the pants in the relationship!) Haha. I liked the names Lucy, Stella, and Juno. DH hated all of them and really wanted Bailey. I personally knew every second dog in the world was named Bailey so I said no everytime he asked. Finally it was the week before she came and DH was feeling unsure of our decision on adding a dog, so I gave In and let him use the name he wanted. Sorry- I guess that wasn't a short story. Well, anyways bailey suits her just fine its shortened most often to just B. Everytime someone asks her name though they always respond "oh, so and so has a dog named that. So DH now agrees our next pup will be named something unique!
Way to throw your husband a bone (so to speak).  Your story is a perfect study in compormise and bodes well for a long and happy relationship.  You make the big decisions and allow him to make a little decision every once in a while to let him think he still has some power.  Nice work!
We wanted a scientist's name. We considered Hubble, Darwin, Newton, Sagan, Kepler, etc. When we saw him though, we knew he was a Darwin. :-)
We wanted a star wars name since our son was obsessed with it at the time. We knew we wanted a girl dog, but didn't want our dog to be named padmae or laya so anakin's nickname is annie. So we stuck with that since it was a well known name. Her registered name is Southern Charm's Annastasia. We wanted a princess like name since we knew she would be a princess and well...................that is what she became. Her middle name is Starlight Dancer after her mom.
My father once trained a standard bred race horse named Starlight Dancer 35 or more years ago.  She was a beautifl chestnut with a white star on her forhead and four white feet.  This brings back memories :)
Our Maddie was Madeline when we got her.  It just seemed to "formal" for her so we shortened it to Maddie.

Murphy just looked like a Murphy.

Finnegan was named by BruceGirl. Joanne decided he needed a Jimmy Buffett name because I am such a fan. BruceGirl suggested Finn...You know, "Fins to the left...." and it just fit. ;-)

:) :) :)

I have been a bit out of the loop lately - Finn - is he a keeper??

A sad but lovely story - I am glad she came to you.
