All of this 'talk' about traveling and what's to see  and do where we all live got me thinking (Clark's inspiration) .... Have you guys ever heard of "Flat Stanley"? ( I know you teachers and moms probably heard of it).  For those of you who don't know who "Stanley" is...

Flat Stanley is a children's book written by Jeff Brown.  Stanley Lambchop was flattened when a bulletin board hanging over his bed, fell on him, flattening Stanley  in his sleep.  One special advantage about being 'flat' was that he could now be mailed to his friends in an envelope.  The Flat Stanley project was started by a teacher in Ontario who wanted to improve on letter writing skills.  Each student had to mail their 'paper' Stanley to someone they know.  That 'someone  had to take him around with him or her and take pictures of Stanley and write about his adventures while staying with the 'friend'.  Usually we, as teachers, make a map and plot just where our Stanleys visited.

So it got me thinking.... (although I would LOVE to visit all of you personally myself, there just aren't enough days free - for me - lol)  so... what if we do our own version of "Flat Stanley" - but do it with 'a doodle' - our very own "Flat Doodle"!  We could either use the generic one like in the logo, or incorporate our own doodle. We could identify the location, sign and date it, and see just where "he/she" goes and how long it takes....

I don't know... maybe I have too much time on my hands this summer (not) and my 'teacher brain' is working overtime, but...What are your thoughts? Be honest... have I just forgotten to totally remove my "teacher hat" for the summer????

If it is made of quality cardstock, laminated, and fits into a letter-sized envelope,  it could be mailed using regular postage yet last longer - that is the teacher brain working.
GREAT idea!  Ooo... I haven't used the "L" word (laminate) in over a month now....LOL
I think poor stanley would be bored at my house. I don't have much to offer the poor little guy!

You'd be surprised.  He is very easily entertained.  Whatever you do with your doodles, Stanley would love to do with all of you.  Out for an ice cream, to the dog park, even on a walk.

NO!  He can go where ever YOU go... shopping, outside, visiting, any where... it doesn't have to be a touristy place at all... your house is GREAT!  More personal that way!
I would think that if it fits in a letter size envelope, it would be too small to take a good picture of on it's travels, no?
TRUE
Legal sized is what I meant but it could be whatever.  I was thinking Flat doodle would be a cut out.  Maybe we need to use a manila 8 x 10????
Please include me in on this, sounds like loads of fun!

Love Flat Stanley!  He has been to my house a couple of times and loves going on adventures with my dogs.  It would be fun to have a traveling dood.

Oh, by the way, I have a Photo Shopped picture of my doods in a woodie heading out.  It is old, but might be a good introduction to use for our travelin' dood.  It is the last photo on page 7 of my photos.

HA!  When I read your 1st sentence, I was thinking this lady HAS to be a teacher!  I teach 3rd grade...It takes one to know one!  My son's Flat Stanley project went to Japan with my husband's business colleague last year!  Very cool!

Traci - Funny how we can 'spot' each other miles away... and over the internet as well!  LOL  I teach second grade.  Now,  Japan! Wow!  THAT'S a trip for Stanley Boy!
