Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I am a new mommy to a sweet 8 week old goldendoodle. He has a great personality, very passive... but will chew on anything and everything!
We got him a teething bone and little stuffed toy but they only keeps his attention a minute or so... any suggestions would be helpful!

Congrats on being a new mommy, I would join the New Puppy group, you will get a lot of information on there as well, I have seen on there that it is recommended to not give your puppy anything that they can digest as a new puppy unless they already had it from the breeder, The reason they stated this is because sometimes dogs can get runny poop and it can be from giardia or other issues and you won't know if it is the treats or what.
I also read about the washclothes going in the freezer. My mom is getting her first puppy tomorrow and she is living with me. My concern for the wash clothes and I don't know if it is founded or not is I don't want her to think it is EVER okay to chew on any type of fabric.. Sort of like I never let Jack have toys that resembled things he should not eat like plastic shoes etc.
We are going to do the Nylabones for puppies and watch her very closely and if she breaks through any of it we will take it away. Jack loves the beef tracheas, Camilla is the one who taught me about them but if he eats too much of it, he gets gastric distress.
Join the puppy group too, I think you will get a lot of ideas there
So Jennifer when can puppies get things like antlers? I think I remember Karen saying that things like giardia have around a two week incubation period. So I'm thinking if she came home and had a test on day one which was clear, and then over two weeks later had a second and was clear, then you would be pretty sure she did not come home from the breeder with giardia. Would it be ok then?
Where do people get Nylabones for puppies and beef tracheas?
Nylabones, I get at Petco or Petsmart. And I ONLY get the super hard ones, not the gummy type because those can be dangerous. I suppose it would be different for a puppy though...
Beef Tracheas I get at a local pet specialty store. It's a food supply and bakery.
I think Karen said they could have the antlers as a puppy because they are considered non edible, so it won't make them sick, The thing about them that some people said was it can break their teeth because it is so hard. I might let Molly try an antler, she is a toy golden doodle like Jack, Jack does not eat the antlers, he is not a chewer at all, I actually have to brush his teeth to get tarter off because he just won't chew, as a puppy though he may have...
Anything I do know that is right I learned on here. I know last week I just searched in the search section for safe chew toys for puppies and that is where I got my information.
Good luck, let me know what works, tomorrow we will have Molly and be looking to satisfy her chewing needs too.
