T or F? If you get a 2nd dog, should it not be another female??

Wondering if this is true....I heard that if we have a girl dog, we shouldn't get another one because they might fight worse than a boy/girl combo.

 

Any truth to this???

I have two females and they get along wonderfully and they both get along with my male dog. When i got my puppy I decided to get a male because my male is very non dominant and I felt would easily accept another male and I didn't want to take a chance on shaking the boat with the girls. It really depends on the dogs.

I had multiple female dogs when I was growing up as well as combinations.  I currently have all males.  I do think it depends more upon the dominance of the dog than the sex.

I agree if all dogs are fixed it doesn't really matter the sex it has more to do with the personalities.

I had female Shih Tzus one was spayed and one was not, they got along great.  After my youngest one had a litter I had her spayed and they still got along great.  With my doodles, I got Sasha first and she was spayed at six months, then got Oliver when Sasha was 10 months old, they immediately became the best of friends.  Oliver was neutered at 6 months as well and no problems.  I think it depends on the personality of the dog and not the sex.

I was wondering the same thing.  We too are thinking of getting another pup and have been trying to figure out if it would be best to get a male or female.  Cooper is 15 months old now and was neutered when he was 6 months old.  I also wondered if it would make a difference if the additional dog was an adult dog or if it was a puppy.

Not for me.  I have 2 girls and they love each other like crazy.  They are a year apart.

I have 2 girls, and they get along as well as can be expected with a 12 year difference in age. The older girl would rather continue being an only dog, but she gets along ok with Sunny.
