I have heard that a ticking clock is soothing for a puppy the first few nights... however I am having the hardest time finding a cheap one that actually ticks at the stores!

I also know about the snuggie puppies? I would love to get one of those for Riley... but have already gone way over my budget on her : (

Any suggestions on where to buy one of those alarm clocks?

Thanks!

How about a sound machine?  I have a sound machine alarm clock that I use every night for me.  Monty has been exposed to it since day one, I'll guess he likes it too.  *We like the ocean sound the best.

Here is a cheaper heartbeat toy than the Snuggle Puppy. I do not know anything else about it, but as with anything, would need to be supervised. Also, there is a link on DK to order things from Amazon.com.

I would try Target for the clock and a fan helps too, to mute outside noises. Both my dogs had a Snuggle puppy and I really do think it helped. Good luck!

It seems that Westclox still makes wind-up alarm clocks that tick. You can find a selection of them here:

In my experience, clocks that run on batteries don't tick--so the wind-up style seems to be the key to ticking! I was surprised to see how difficult it can be to find a new clock that ticks. My DH and I collect antique clocks, so we have lots of ticking all over the house. Apparently, many people find that annoying! *^_^*

Best wishes!

There is a tick- tock clock on You Tube if you just Google it you could download it and it's free!!!! ; )
I think that any wind up clock works. We DO have a mantle clock and another wooden clock that uses batteries and they DO tick! Even a travel size should be real cheap. We just put our wooden one next to their crate and I think that worked fine. A fan would be great too. (in addition)
Amanda, do you have an iPhone?  I'll be there's an app that gives you a ticking clock sound.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions!! I went ahead about bought her the snuggle blanket : ) Unitl that arrives I will try and you tube a ticking clock!!
I do agree the ticking sounds really helps, I used a battery operated wall clock that ticked and put it right outside both of my puppies crate the first week and they both slept through the night very quickly. I had their crates right near my bed so they could hear us breathing,(DH's snoring) so they knew we were right there. Good luck. And did you say the B word? Are we supposed to have a Budget? Oh dear, I guess I blew that rule too!
Have you tried Family Dollar or Dollar General for a ticking clock? The Dollar Tree or Big Lots might have one also.
