Okay, well, here is how it went. Took Hattie out to the garage and put her on the grooming table. Even though the treats kept coming she would eat them before I could find or clip a nail under all that hair. Then she would begin wiggling again! I finally gave up and took her to Petsmart. They used the dremel and ground her nails and used the thinning shears to trim around her eyes. I was so nervous and told them once to slow down because she was nervous and upset. I ran out to the store area to grab treats so as to lessen any trauma for her and when I got back they were done with her feet and she was fine. lol!!! So anyway, it was a better job than I could have done myself! It is almost impossible I think to do this alone unless you have an older dog. I hate being single sometimes! So here is before and after of sweet Hattie Doodle who is turning into a such a big girl!

She is such a cutie!
She is adorable. I have a husband and daughter that lives at home and two doodles over the age of one, and I am not brave enough to ever attempt home grooming. Kudos for trying!!
Great job.  Confidence will come  stick with it  you did great
I think she is always cute. Heck, Spud's hair is 1/16 of an inch. I gave up too. Yet, he is cute to me still.  Hattie, thank goodness your mom does not think 1/16" is cute   HA HA
She looks fabulous!!!!  I do NOT even attempt to groom my doodles other than to occasionally cut some stray hunks so they can see better.  I just pay the groomer.  I know it is training, but my husband holds the doodles so that I can do a thorough brushing.

Yes, her hair will continue to grow, maybe not Rapunzel but longgggg. It will probably start to mat when she goes through the coat change. At that point, you may not be able to keep her hair long without it matting terribly. We have one dog with curly wooly hair and there is no way his hair can be more than 3 inches. It's like it gets to this magic length and I have to brush him every day and even then he mats. Our other dog has fleecy/straighter hair. I think he could have it six inches long and not mat, but he may not have hit the dreaded coat change yet as he is 11 months. I love his hair clipped because he looks more doodley. Hattie is still a pup and you have time to figure it all out. Definitely join The Grooming Group and read about the coat change.

I just looked at photos on your page of Hattie. Her hair is pretty straight and she may not mat. Dori's Rua doesn't mat. Hattie is so cute I don't think there would be a hair cut or not cut that would look bad on her!

Sandy, I have to keep Fudge's hair on the shorter side because she is prone to mats. I love it long, but the maintenance, for me, is too hard. Vern, on the other hand, has a completely different type of coat and his hair stays pretty nice long, but he rolls in everything, so shorter works better for that too...LOL!
She has the cutest face, and look at that smile...She looks good with any kind of hair, lol....

I hear you.  There's no way we could give Kirby a full haircut with just one of us.  One of us shoves a constant supply of treats/food into him while the other one clips.  He really hates getting his hair cut and we are afraid to try to take him to a stranger.  He came to us petrified of electric clippers and we think he tolerates it now because it's us doing the haircut.

We don't even try with Dexter.  He is so so well behaved for the groomer but is a little devil for us :)

Love the cut.  I did the same thing w/ Sheila.  Now since she has been trained by the groomers, when she needs a trim or nails cut, she just acts like a normal thing.  Easy peasy.  Sometimes its worth it to pay to have someone else help train, we have enough to do with these young doods, right?
Hattie is just so darn cute!! I love the pics! I am not much of a D-I-Yer and take Knox to Petsmart for all of his grooming needs! (I could never even cut my daughter's bangs when she was little! Lol!)

Judy grooms our Maltese and our rescue Maltese.  She "CAN" groom Holly but, Holly is such a big dog that it is too time consuming.  What we do is have Holly groomed about once every two months and Judy does a little trimming in the interim.

Since we have five of our own Maltese (we have decided to adopt one additional foster who has special needs) and can have five to seven foster Maltese, their care fills Judy's time.

We are very fortunate in being retired.  We could never have devoted this much time and effort to maltese and Doodle fostering and rescue while we were both working...
