Yes, her hair will continue to grow, maybe not Rapunzel but longgggg. It will probably start to mat when she goes through the coat change. At that point, you may not be able to keep her hair long without it matting terribly. We have one dog with curly wooly hair and there is no way his hair can be more than 3 inches. It's like it gets to this magic length and I have to brush him every day and even then he mats. Our other dog has fleecy/straighter hair. I think he could have it six inches long and not mat, but he may not have hit the dreaded coat change yet as he is 11 months. I love his hair clipped because he looks more doodley. Hattie is still a pup and you have time to figure it all out. Definitely join The Grooming Group and read about the coat change.
I just looked at photos on your page of Hattie. Her hair is pretty straight and she may not mat. Dori's Rua doesn't mat. Hattie is so cute I don't think there would be a hair cut or not cut that would look bad on her!
I hear you. There's no way we could give Kirby a full haircut with just one of us. One of us shoves a constant supply of treats/food into him while the other one clips. He really hates getting his hair cut and we are afraid to try to take him to a stranger. He came to us petrified of electric clippers and we think he tolerates it now because it's us doing the haircut.
We don't even try with Dexter. He is so so well behaved for the groomer but is a little devil for us :)
Judy grooms our Maltese and our rescue Maltese. She "CAN" groom Holly but, Holly is such a big dog that it is too time consuming. What we do is have Holly groomed about once every two months and Judy does a little trimming in the interim.
Since we have five of our own Maltese (we have decided to adopt one additional foster who has special needs) and can have five to seven foster Maltese, their care fills Judy's time.
We are very fortunate in being retired. We could never have devoted this much time and effort to maltese and Doodle fostering and rescue while we were both working...
