Your Phone Number on Google

It might be a good idea if you entered your phone number as a Google search parameter and made a search to see how many places your phone number is referenced and if the phone number is connected to your address (which is not a good idea)

 

I did a Google search for our phone number and found muptiple hits from rescue groups all over the place, including Turtle Rescue.  Most of these hits were because rescue organizations posted out email address and phone number as links and there was nothing malicious or dangerous about it. However, there could heve been some private information like addresses which we would not like floating around the Internet.

 

It might also be well advised to do a Google search using your name to see how much information linked to your name is floatintg around the internet.  Our names are not only linked to Maltese and Doodle rescue but, there is a lot of information about my Navy career.  None of it is dangerous or something I would want to keep private but, you never know.

 

Anyway, it is worth a look for the sake of safety

OMD - when I looked at mine - it brought up two DK postings where I had given my number to someone on DK!  I had left them on their page.  Moral of story - send it through private message.

Absolutely. Don't put any private info. on the public forum. Also, screen names don't have to include your whole name. You can change other parameters too. I forget now what I changed to nonsense syllables, namely ishkibble when we discussed this issue before. Maybe Clark will chime in here.

Every now and then I get a panicked email from a member who finds a link on Google to their DK post and worry about the site's privacy.  What they forget is that DK isn't private--that's how they found it in the first place.  Google indexes EVERYTHING that isn't private.  So it's up to them to be private about matters they want private.

I googled mimi linna and my name came up/ wonder if the site can put that as private and have a setting for just members of doodle kisses to see comments. thye have one for everyone/ newest doodles/friends..but not just doodle members.

Any time you post something on a public site, Google will index it.  You can tell this is a publicly viewable site because you could see pages and discussions before you joined and could sign in.  You CAN make your page private and only viewable by  your DK friends.  You can also change your name and profile URL -- you don't have to use your full real name.

If you can't remove your post from whatever site it's posted on...you're outta luck.  You just have to be careful about where you post things and what info you share online.
