Wood vs Metal pinbrush

We already own a CC metal pinbrush and really like how it works but because we have two doodles that both want to be brushed at the same time we are going to get a second brush and I wondered about a wood pinbrush instead - does it give different results?

wow....Jackson is 5-1/2 mos old and I still can't get him to stand still for more than 2 seconds for ANYTHING!!  Cleaning his eyes, ATTEMPTING to brush!  I'm so frustrated!  I've do so with a firm had to let him know I mean business but unfortunately, he always wins because he's impossible!  I've had him to the groomer at 4 mos to just get him used to the procedure. (no cut - just shampoos and brush out).  He has the most beautiful THICK fleece coat - and overnight, he's developed matts at behind both ears and on a couple of spots on his body. I didn't think I needed to address this probleml until approximately 8 mos when they begin to blow out their puppy coat.  He had another grooming appointment tomorrow and I'm worried that the groomer is going to have one heck of a problem on her hands in attempting to keep him still AND now remove matts.  I don't have a problem in giving the time it takes to brush them out, but I'm worried I"ll never be able to  make Jackson obey in sitting still to do so.  Anyone else experiencing this problem???

I like the wooden pin brush to start a brushing session and then move on to different tools according to the coat of the dog.  Perhaps you need a grooming table with a 'no sit' loop. Teach the use of it in small stages. First, make if fun to be on the table, then reward for being still on the head loop [no brushing] then do the same for the no sit loop. Once you get a still dog for 1 second, let him down. Work towards the brushing. Once you have him tied up on the loop, ignore struggling. Don't talk, no eye contact, just go about brushing without buying into his behaviour. Once they realize that their behaviour is not changing the outcome, they will give up. You just have to be more stuborn than his is.

I don't use a loop. Actually I don't even have one and my girls all push and shove to be first. One day I turned around and 3 of them were sitting on my table. I had to take a pic. I got a couple of people to steady them while I got the camera out. They are moms, so their haircuts are a little weird in the pic.

The wooden pin brush doesn't go through the hair as well as the metal pin brush. I have both. The wooden pins are softer on their skin. JD doesn't have a thick coat, it's straight and fairly thin, so I use the wooden pins first to just loosen up any tangles or knots, and then the metal brush to smooth and "finish".

Kim, how do your doodles let you know that they want to be brushed at the same time?

They both love the undivided attention they get when being brushed so when we start brushing one the other one immediately comes over and sits by us waiting (sometimes not very patiently).  If we had two brushes my DH and I could brush at the same time and neither dood would feel left out.

My two do that too :)  I ask who wants to get brushed and sit on the floor and the first one that plops between my legs wins!  They rush and push, it is hilarious, and Buddy Hated being brushed as a puppy.  I used to have to let him bite on one brush while I brushed him with another.....

I've tried the wooden pin brushes and I don't care for them.  I think they catch on the coat more.

Yes, I wouldn't use one on a dog with a poodle-y coat. Jackdoodle's coat is very much like a Golden Retriever's, but longer.

Then we'd better stick to the metal pin brush for Cloud - his fur is so thick all over and very curly in spots - I think it will pull too much and he'll end up running the other direction when the brush comes out.

I like the wooden pin brush to start a brushing session and then move on to different tools according to the coat of the dog.  My dogs love the wooden pin brush. Why not try it since you already have the other one?
