Hi everyone- tomorrow starts our journey as an official doodle owner- we pick up Derby in Chatanooga, TN in the morning and am crossing my fingers for a good car ride home. I have been reading everyone's posts and advice for the past month and am hoping it makes me a wee bit more prepared for what is to come. Wish me luck with my 8 week old bundle of puppy love. Must catch up on sleep tonight since it has been 12 years since I've done this!! We have a three year old pug named Marley too, but we rescued him at 9 months so he was already pretty much trained.

Amy I live off of Mc Ginnis Ferry Road in Alpharetta. My doodle Beamer is almost 9 months. When Derby gets older we should get the DOODS together. I go to Alpharetta Animal Hospital and really like them. I just switched there with Beamer.

How exciting!  I was surprised how well Shelby did on our car ride (only 2 hour).  She wimpered a bit and then settled in... no potty in the crate.  The humans however - we took 2 bathroom breaks on the way home!  Post pictures.... soon!   Have fun, they grow up so fast.

Congrats!!!

Please post pictures.

Hi Amy,

What an exciting adventure you have ahead of you! How far a ride is Chatanooga from where you are in Georgia? Derby is really cute...I love that chocolate color!  Anxious to hear more!

Congratulations and good luck!

Oh I am in love!!!  Look at those eyes!  And that chocolate milk nose!!

OMD...What a SWEET little face!!!! So excited for you!

OOOHHHHH, he is just precious.  Now I am wanting a puppy.. NOOOOOOOOO

sooooo adorable. Hi Little Puppy!!

Oh buddy, you are one darling pup! Be kind to your family and sleep a bit tonight! ;o)

Amy, he is just the sweetest looking little puppy. You will have so much fun. I found a sheet over the crate with a clock that tic-tocs and a blanket and stuffy from the breeder really helped those first nights. I also took him outside when he whimpered, very business like, no playtime, just potty, and put him right back into the crate and if he started whimpering again I just made a load thud on the crate and he'd stop immediately. Oh, and his crate was right by my bed and I would hang my hand down so he could see/ smell me so he knew he wasn't alone. Hope this gives you some new ideas to try. Good luck.

I second the fingers in the crate - my fiance would dangle his fingers into the crate door if Luna got too anxious the first few nights - she just wanted some reassurance that she wasn't alone.

She came from a litter of 10 pups so she had no idea what it was to be alone!  I think the breeder taking her away from her siblings a couple days before we picked her up helped smooth the transition too.
