As I posted a few weeks ago, we recently rescued a pup from the shelter.  Before we adopted him, they told us that he had an injury to one of his eyes presumably from being hit by a car and was now blind in that eye.  They also said that depending on how the eye healed, it may have to be removed at a later date.  Today is that day.

I'm a nervous wreck. I don't think I slept more than 3 hours total last night.  All the "what if's" are going through my head.  It's going to be a very long day.

Little did I know that I could become so attached to a dog that I have only known for such a short time.

Please send good thoughts to Murphy today.

UPDATE #1: 3:15 pm-The vet just called. The surgery is over and Murphy is starting to wake up. He said everything went well. They will keep him overnight to monitor him for signs of hemorrhaging. If everything goes well tonight, I can pick him up tomorrow.
Thank you again for all your thoughts and prayers!!!

UPDATE #2: Thursday:  Brought Murphy home yesterday afternoon.  I'd attach a picture but he currently looks like something out of a horror movie with the bandage, some stitches exposed, the swelling, partially shaved face and the satellite dish.  The bandage comes off in a week and then a week later he stitches will be removed.  He sleeps most of the time right now due to the pain meds, which is ok because it solves the problem of how to keep Cooper from trying to play with him.  It's going to be a long 2 weeks but all should be good after that.

Thanks again for all the good thoughts, wishes and prayers.

Good news!  I hope all goes well and you can get him home tomorrow!

So glad the surgery went well!

Thinking of you at this hard time.  At least now he will begin to get better each day.  Hang in there...

Jennifer - so glad to hear the good news of the surgery going well.  Will continue prayers for his full recovery and that he adapts well.  Thank you for your love and commitment to this little guy!  He is blessed to have you :o)

Hello,  I have been thinking of Murphy and hope he is doing well.  Sending healing wishes and sunshine your way!!  Amy and Lily

So good to hear he came out of it well and it was a success. I'm sure you are relieved. I bet Cooper senses Murphy's need to rest and recover. They are so sensitive.

Good news!  It sounds like his recovery is going smoothly so far.

So glad things are going well.  Hang in there, hugs to you and Murphy.

Hope all is well. Do they leave a void underneath or do they implant a prosthetic eye? Either way I guess he'll just look like a permanent wink! He is gorgeous!

The surgery can be done either with a prosthetic eye or not. We chose not to have the prosthesis because it is purely cosmetic to keep the skin from sinking into the eye socket after they sew the eyelids shut. The vet said that once the hair grows back it will probably completely cover the incision scar because Murphy's coat is so curly. And because his coat is so dark and he has dark eyes, it will be much less noticeable than if he had short hair and a lighter colored coat.

Thanks for the update.  I will bet a young pup like him will bounce back very quickly.

I hope sweet little Murphy has a speedy, uneventful recovery. He is beautiful.
