Concrete in fur

I cannot believe this happened.

My landlord is replacing the fence in my backyard with a lovely 6ft cedar privacy fence. Today he poured concrete in the holes with the new posts. Ember, being her nosey self stuck her nose in the concrete!!!! WTD?!

My new neighbor was chatting with me at the gate to the yard and suddenly Ember was tearing around the yard in frantic strides. I noticed her nose was all concrete covered, so my first priority was to get that off, which was easy. But the concrete in her beard around her nose.... Not so much. Suggestions? Please?

I think uncured concrete really burns. Poor nose. If the concrete is still soft I'd try hosing it off. Otherwise I'd cut it out. worse comes to worse that way she'll look funny for a while.

When cement is mixed with water, an extremely caustic alkaline compound is formed.  If this compound comes into contact with skin, it produces burns that gradually grow worse over time.  Wash and clip!  Silly Ember--hope she doesn't have any ill effects.

Thanks everyone. I think she is fine. I got it off her nose right away and then started working on her beard. It didn't come into contact with skin except for her nose, which was taken care of within moments. The concrete in her beard was mostly concentrated at the ends of the fur. I did my best to get that put without clipping. Checked her paws and sure enough found some there. Into the tub she went and it all washed out. Whew. Especially nerve wracking with what others posted about burning! She is acting just fine, thankfully!
