Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi Everyone!

I'm awaiting a F1B red goldendoodle either this summer or around this time next year and I'm really curious about coat types. I'd love it if all you great F1B owners would post 3 pictures, one of your dogs coat as a newborn, or the earliest photo you, like an 8 week one and one of your dogs coat before coat change and then one after coat change, just to see the progression from puppy to a few months old, to after coat change!

I'm hoping to get a lot of pictures for references!

If you want a curlier pup, look for curls early on--they may relax out a bit when they get older, but will be there at the beginning and then come back later as an adult. At least, that is what my breeder and I have observed.

Here is an example of pups that will be curlier. See all the little waves on the back? These two pups are now older (3 months) and have big loose curls. The other puppies around them had straight coats at a few days old and now have big waves and curls, but their coats will ultimately be straighter--I THINK! If there is one thing you learn on DK, it is that these things are super hard to predict! The second picture is of the puppy at the bottom of the first picture--he is now three months old and has big curls.

Ollie is an F1B "mini" (ya right) and he is 8 months now...I'm not sure if he has gone through his coat change or not...he has gotten curlier though.

Here is Ollie at about 8 weeks

And here he is at 8 months

and his back is curly

Allie is an F1bb. You can check out pictures of her on my page. I have no idea how to put them here. I can say even in the same litter you will get very different coat types. Allie's coat (or hair as I like to call it) is very soft and fine. Her litter mate (sister) has more coarse fur (hair). They both are curly/ wavy, but Allie does not have as many problems with matts as her sister does. I would love her whatever her coat type would be though. I have to say the hardest part of waiting for Allie was WAITING ;)

Our Fudge is a F1B Labradoodle. I am not sure how the coat differs from Labradoodle to Goldendoodle, but I think it is very similar.

I love this.

Thank you!

Laurie - Fudge reminds me so much of Rooney in the color change.  So dark brown as to be almost black in the beginning, slowly lightening and then finally almost a "frosted" look.  I love their adult color!

I think that, too, when I see pictures of Rooney! Frosted is the perfect description.

Here are a few of Gus.

Gus at 12 weeks in August 2006. The day we brought him home.

At 8 months.

Gus

At 5 years old. We keep him pretty short. This was just after a trip to the groomer.

OMD!  These pictures are adorable!  I don't have an F1B, and I should probably stop looking at these pictures before I start wanting a 3rd doodle!  AHHH!
