Does anyone have any creative solutions for disposing of doggie do?
Earthday is coming this week and it makes me reflect on my carbon footprint..
My municipality recycles a lot of plastics and we compost a lot of organics. But the municipality wants doggie do in the trash. We scoop all the poo as Chester prefers the side of the road for this activity. So this does amount to an extra trash bag a month on garbage day...Heavy too. So my biodegradable bags will likely not biodegrade in a trash bag in a landfill.
We live in a suburban area with lots of trees in our yard. I suppose I could attempt to encourage him to do his business in the woods and let it naturally compost. How hard would it be to retrain that? Chester is a bit of a fraidy cat at night.
I saw in a pet store..a composter for dog poo. I have two composters I use for my veggie and flower gardens..to compliment the green bin city pick up. Most of what you read discourage pet feces in those composters. I wouldn't want to use it on my veggies...but maybe grass.
Does any one have success with poo composter.
I do think it is funny that in a neighboring town it is accepted in their green bin pick up.
If anyone has a green idea..I would love to get the scoop.
Happy Earth Day

So glad you asked...I have been wondering how people dispose of their poo too!!!
No creative ideas here. From what I've read and what the town recommends I pick up as much poop as possible with as few bags as possible and put them in the trash. Some people here bought these devices, when DK sold them, to shovel the poop into sewage lines. I have a septic system so this was not a good solution. I do think poop even in plastic bags, which likely split open duringn some part of the trip to the landfill, will recycle itself.
One dog’s waste is another man’s treasure?
The Phoenix suburb of Gilbert is considering harvesting the power of poo, converting dog waste from a popular dog park into methane to power the park’s street lamp, The Arizona Republic reports.
Dog owners at Cosmo Dog Park, which receives 600,000 visitors a year, would clean up after their pet using park-supplied biodegradable bags and then drop the bags into the dog waste digester, instead of a trash can. They would turn the digester’s hand crank to stir the mixture, causing the methane to rise and fuel the street lamp.
What a neat idea. I looked at the Article- that is quite the park. Thanks for sharing.
Now that's some good thinking!!
Here is the contraption that F is talking about http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum2/topics/the-doggie-doo-drain I have a pail with a lid and line it with a plastic grocery bag and dispose of the poo in it It goes out the the curb every other week which only uses one plastic bag every two weeks. Gav does not poo off property so that saves on the bags.
Thanks for the Link that is a really cool product.
Good discussion! I don't have any ideas myself, but hoping we can put our doodle heads together & come up with a good solution!
A doggy dooley is another option. Here is the one I have. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DOGGIE-DOOLEY-DD-3000-WASTE-DISPOSAL-SYSTEM...
Leaving poop to decompose au natural spreads disease. Plus it's a burden for the folks that come behind you to avoid landmines.
I prefer to use corn based poop bags when out on walks but it has been hard to find ones with handles for ease of carrying.
Do you put the corn based bags in this? I think this type of thing is my only option. Unless the ashpoopie is on the market and worth it. What about biodegradable ones?
Thanks for posting.
