Just a reminder. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE CHILDREN AND/OR ANIMALS IN CARS during warm weather. The temperature in a car can rise very quickly. Disaster can happen in minutes. If you see an animal or chid unattended in a parked car please make sure that they are not in danger - IF IN DOUBT CALL THE POLICE. They do take these calls seriously and will respond promptly.

The following link summarizes the laws around the country.

I had someone once tell me "but my sunroof is open"...I almost punched them in the face. More people need to read this article!

With the warm weather - I thought that it was appropriate to "revitalize" this discussion.  It is important to remember these precious lives can be lost in just a few moments.

I've left Trav in the car while doing quick runs to the grocery store, and he's stayed in the car several times when I've been traveling and stopped to eat.  Needless to say, the temperature has been mild at all those times.  95% of the time when traveling, we survive on fast food because of concerns about temperature, but occasionally it's worked out so inside food for humans has been a reasonable choice, although I have to confess there's only been one time when I've eaten inside when I didn't have a view of the car.

i hate leaving Cooper in the car. When we moved half way across the country we had to leave her - but it was for literally 5 minutes while we ordered take out food or went to the bathroom. Where possible we would take it in turns and one of us would either stay in the car, or take Cooper out to stretch her legs. I did have to leave her the other day - I picked DH up from work and we were on our way to a rental viewing, and I needed the bathroom. I left her for a few minutes but DH could see her from his work window. Im also paranoid someone will steal her if as she is worth quite lot of money. If she cant go with me to a store, I dont take her

Summer is here another tragic story of a child left in a car:

Please be careful with your children and pets,

If you see a child or pet in a hot car  "CALL THE POLICE"

Just wanted to remind everyone of the dangers of leaving children or dogs (or any other pet) in a car.

Good idea for a reminder. Thanks.

To quantfy things:

With summer coming and the warm weather here we must be vigilant!!!

 My Dog Is Cool

Great information!!!

"WHAT SHOULD PEOPLE DO IF THEY SEE A DOG IN A HOT CAR?

If the dog looks distressed, call the local police, the local animal control agency or 911 right away.  Then alert the State SPCA Humane Police.  In New Jersey: 1-800-582-5979."

"Go inside the nearest business(es) and ask the manager to make an announcement.

DO SOMETHING! ANYTHING! SAVE THAT ANIMAL'S LIFE! IT'S THAT IMPORTANT!"

(Quoted from handout of the New Jersey State SPCA Humane Police)

This is a topic that needs to be brought up again and again.

Yesterday (83 degrees), I was at the local Costco.  As I got out of my car I heard yelping.  The car parked next to mine had a small dog carrier and a dog yelping.  Not thinking I went into Costco and asked they call the police.  I was told they were not allowed.  So I called from my cel phone.  Police were dispatched but the person had left before they arrived.

I ask to speak to a manager at Costco, and inquire as to the policy of not calling the police.  I am informed that although all the people at the front desk refused to call, the policy is they should call and that would be explained to them.

I leave Costco, and sure enough another car is parked next to me with a dog locked in it.  I call the police, an officer quickly arrives, takes my information and says he will watch the dog until the owner arrives.  He suggested that I not hang around.  I am thinking he did not want a confrontation between myself and the dog owner.

PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL THE POLICE, DO NOT RELY ON THE STORE TO CALL, they don't want to get involved.

I really don't understand why people don't just leave their dogs AT HOME when they go shopping.  We only stop somewhere with dog in the car if there are two of us and someone can stay with her.  Boggles my mind.

If I saw a dog left in a car on a hot day I would 100% be calling the police.
