A week ago our Quincy had her spay. That evening because she couldn't do the stairs up to our bedroom we decided to bring out the blow up mattress and all camp out in the living room with her. I went up the stairs to grab some pillows and slipped on my way down. Falling to the bottom I screamed out in pain and noticed my foot looked weird, I must have been in and out of it. My DH called 911 and in her post op stupor my Q layed down on my chest. She remained there while the paramedics worked on me, I dislocated my foot, broke my leg in 6 places and injured my back. It was pretty serious, I was scared and worried who would stay with my pup while I was in hospital. The EMS remarked what a good dog she was and as my sister in law arrived to watch her they carried me out to the ambulance.
I spent a five days in the hospital, had a sugary to repair my leg, my husband said they had to run out to Home Depot and get extra hardware (alway a sense of humor). I'm on the mend, struggling the first few days back home. I have a full time nurse assistant to help me do all the things we take for granted, and yes also walk the pup. I have a four month stint in a wheelchair but lucky it wasn't more severe or a more permanent time in the chair. My DH said every day I was gone the dog sat by the door refusing to sleep in her bed, or any other room, and she moped around. The first few days he thought it was her post op behavior but she would refuse to leave the area in front of the door I left from.
Once I came home she was and continues to be my best medicine. She is getting used to the wheelchair and when I am struggling in pain she is right there with me. She now sleeps alongside me with her snout carefully perched on my casted leg. Doodles are very special loving animals, I'm so blessed to have her.

I am sooo sorry to hear that you were injured so badly.  You have a very loving doodle companion.

OMG!  I am so sorry to hear this!  I hope you are feeling a little bit better every day!  It sounds like you have a remarkable doodle who has a huge capacity for love; once you are fully recovered, you ought to investigate therapy dog work and train Quincy for it.  She will already be used to wheel chairs, and is already "working."  Sounds like she is a really special little love and I am glad you have her!

Wow... you really had a bad fall, but I am glad you are on the mend.  Doodles are amazing aren't they !!!  When I travel my BF says that my Sasha constantly looks at the door I left from.  He says she always is checking to see if I am coming in.  And you are so right - doodles are our best medicine :)   I wish you a speedy recovery !!!

OMD.  That sounds absolutely horrible.  I am so sorry that happened to you!  I'm sure you were all upset too knowing that she had just had surgery & then you had to leave her!  For just being 6 months, it sounds like she is an awesome doodle!  You two already have a very strong bond it sounds like.  Doodles are the absolute BEST!  I don't think I will ever have any other kind of dog again.

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident--it sounds so painful and scary. What a good companion you have in Quincy! She will certainly make your recuperation much more tolerable.

Patty, I am so sorry to hear of your terrible fall! I am so glad you have your wonderful Quincy to help comfort you as you heal!

I'm so very sorry for you! That sounds like an incredibly bad break(s). I am alarmed by how badly you were hurt. I hope everything heals perfectly and you are able to function well, soon. Sweet Quincey sounds like the best nurse available.

I'm still catching up on DK after being away.  Patty, I'm so sorry to read this post.  What a horrible and painful experience.  I sure hope that you are now feeling better, and I agree that Doodles are VERY special.

Patty, I am so sorry to hear of your injuries but doodle medicine is the best kind. Hope you have a fast recovery so you can get back to enjoying your doodle.

Wow--Patty--that sounds awful--I have falen down the stairs a few times myself, but just had a bruised backside--I am so sorry to hear that you had such terrible injuries. How lucky you are to have your Doodle love and you hubby sounds like a fun guy too--take care and be kind to yourself!!

Patty, so sorry to hear about your accident.  That sounds awful.  Glad to hear you are on the mend.  On the bright side, you certainly have a very special, very loyal doodle and this accident may have given you an opportunity to bond with your doodle girl while you mend.  Get well quickly!

Ouch!!!! So sorry you had such a nasty fall.  Sending lots of positive doodle energy your way.
