Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
This little 5 month old doodle was adopted by Jacquie's Mom only a couple of weeks ago. He went in for his vaccines and is having a life threatening reaction to the Lepto. He has some time predisposed genetic thing (how scientific of me) to the Lepto. Finn really needs our thoughts and prayers. He has to be one of the 30% that survive this!!!!
Finn's Story
Finn is a 5 month old Australian Labradoodle puppy surrendered to Doodle Rescue Collective in early September.Finn was surrendered to DRC when his original owner was no longer able to care for him due to post traumatic stress. She admitted that Finn had been an "impulse purchase" in the wake of tragedy and later realized she was not emotionally, psychologically or physically prepared to take on a rambunctious doodle puppy with all that she was going through in the aftermath of her devastating loss.
Thankfully, Finn's owner was directed to DRC by our friends Marie Shelto & Bocker the Labradoodle. (Thank you Marie & Bocker!)
Having just lost their beloved pup to cancer 6 months ago, and both being retired and semi-retired, my Mom and Sam had literally just officially signed up to volunteer for DRC. In fact they made a trek to a Rhode Island shelter to pull a doodle on our behalf two weeks earlier.
Jacquie posted last night -
GREAT NEWS! FINN IS IMPROVING AND FEELING MUCH BETTER! -- Finn's red cell count has steadily increased over the last week or so and his energy level has increased dramatically....Mom says he's back to being the playful, energetic puppy he was prior to becoming sick. Finn is still on prednisolone, but the weaning begins next week. His wonderful new vet at the specialists is his champion! She has 2 doodles of her own and has seen this exact scenario with the Lepto vaccine play out many times before ....She is highly optimistic that Finn is going to recover from his ordeal.......Keeping our fingers crossed....: )

What a terrible thing to be going through. Lifting Finn and your mom up in prayer.
This is so tragic. I am saying a prayer for Finn and those who love him. Both of my dogs have had Lepto since we live in an area where cases have been reported. The idea that this could have happened just scares me to death.
That's just wrong! What kind of vet is that!!! I'm so mad. Sending pawsitive thoughts to Finn and his family! Hang in there, sweetie!
I am so sorry to hear this. It brought tears to my eyes. I pray that he makes it. He is such a beautful and sweet looking boy. I am praying for him and your Mom
Fingers. paws, and ankles crossed. Prayers and kind thoughts coming for Finn and Jacquie's mom.
Any update this morning?
I'm worried about little Finn. Does anyone know how the night went for him?
I have been reading up on this, in the laymen's articles since the scientific stuff I don't understand. From what I have read puppies are not the ones who usually get this. It is the adult dogs. Lepto vaccine for us is out and titres are in. I am very surprised that no vet has ever discussed the risks of this vaccine other than the usual out of sorts, site tenderness for a day or so.
I am devastated that Jacquie's Mom is going through this because of her vet's nonchalance attitude towards her concerns.
Can they get the shot with no issues for several years and then all of a sudden have a problem with it?
I just heard from Jeannine - Finn had a restful night and ate some breakfast this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See what our prayers can do?? I have tears and chills!!!
