I just finished watching the Governor of CT (who has already declared a State of Emergency) talk about Sandy as the worst storm to hit CT EVER.  They are talking now about waves up to 11 ft as they hit shore, torrential rains and 70 mile per hour winds.  New Jersey and coastal NY are equally bad.  I'm praying that everyone stays safe over these next couple of days.  The best news is that some towns were not going to allow pets into the shelters and there was such a huge backlash that they have now lifted those restrictions.  I also just read that NYC is allowing pets on public transportation for the evacuation.   I'm hoping that people will check in tomorrow and Tuesday if you can to let us all know that you are okay.  They are saying that in our State power is likely to be out for several days.  The bizarre thing is that it was one year ago to the day that we went through the same thing with that blizzard that took power down for eight days.

Sharon, I am in Central PA and PPL Electric are making phone calls telling us we could be without electricity for 5/7 days. And to be patient that they will restore power asap.... Ditto about your thoughts on Corbett...(for different reason's) ... everyone be safe!!!!

Stay safe! I remember that snow storm last year! We've been getting ready for the storm here in NJ too, as ready as can be! Wishing the best for all those affected!

Sharon, if you are prepared there really is nothing to be afraid of. Lots of wind, rain and debris. We lived in Fla For 40 years and had threats of 4-9 named hurricanes just about every year. So stuff went in and out from the yard and garage from June 1 to Nov 1 every year. Talk about getting sick of it. When we moved out of Fla, I never looked back and just the lower stress level from that constant looming anticipation every year has made our life in Az even sweeter.
Stay safe. At this point trying to leave would be madness so sit tight and hug Monty as he won't understand what's happening.
Oh, and in all 40 years with all those hurricames, each being the "WORST we seen in years", only a very few, maybe 2,ever really caused anything but inconvenience. But being over prepared was always our motto too. Stay safe - hope you have Internet up soon after if it goes out.

I feel the same way. I'm hoping Philly doesn't get much. It's barely raining here now, I'm near UPenn. I'm banking on my 6th floor apartment and the uphill climb (I'm 10 long blocks from the Schylkill river) to keep me safe. I figure water won't flow upwards :) There also aren't many trees around. I have 3 laptop batteries charged, my kindle, my iPhone & a battery charger to recharge my electronics. After living in FL, this is nothing.

I hope all our doodlekisses members are able to stay safe.  I am glad to hear that dogs are included in the evatuations and shelters.  If they want people to evacuate for safety reasons, they have to allow their pets too.  I would be so afraid - this is just not something we know the first thing about preparing for out here.

Here in NJ just windy. So much for the SIL cleaning out the gutters - uuurrrrrrrrr!  We will probably be without power - not sure what I will do without DK!!

The reports from the beach areas look terrible! 

Last year during the Halloween storm we were lucky to get a hotel room with the 2 doodles. This year, there really is no place to go since this is such a huge storm!
