Can anyone tell me if my new baby boy will be bathed, clean & fluffy upon pick up at OMD or should I be prepared to bathe him when we get home? Picking up next week!! Thanks.

We here at DK really have no clue. Can you ask the breeder?

It probably depends on the breeder.  I remember when I picked Guinness up he was clean, his ears had been done, and the Breeder clipped his nails and did a tiny face trim....he looked and smelled wonderful.  I suspect this is what good breeders do.

I think good breeders do try to send you home with a clean pup. The breeder warned me that Calla might be messy since she flew for a long time. She was perfect but the airport was christened in a major way. I cleaned and disinfected after us though.

Daisy had a bath and was dry, done by the 14 year old daughter, she got another one when we made it home.

You should really ask your breeder.

I agree, I would wait with the bath. The puppy will be stressed enough.

Thanks for those quick replies. Did any of you get your pups from Old Mill Doodles? Just trying to figure this out without bugging the breeder again. :)

You are the client, and without clients, the breeder would go out of business. You are paying a lot of money for a puppy and there are lots of other breeders out there. I do not think it would be "bugging" the breeder for a client to ask a question, or 100 questions, lol.

Since you are picking him up personally, I assume, since the breeder is in the same state as you, I would certainly expect that he will be bathed and ready to go. Or you can ask if she will bath him before you go, as he would be less traumatized by her handling him there than you taking home a dirty dog and getting him right to the tub. I expect any good breeder will take pride in their puppies enough to want to present you with a clean and fluffy and sweet smelling puppy.
As for "bugging" her with questions.....I realize breeders are very busy with the care of the litters in their home, but as with any business, customers should never feel they are an inconvenience. And I am sure you are not the first person to ask a lot of questions about their new pup. Shows a caring owner and I'd think she'd be delighted that you care enough to ask.
Thank you everyone. I did contact the breeder and he will be washed and fluffed and ready for pickup. :)

Our breeder gives them all baths on the day they go home... Your breeder should not give you a dirty puppy that would be in bad taste, in my opinion, as humble and accurate as it may be.

My pup was nice and clean with a hair clip and nails done.  they told me they would not feed him that morning, but he threw up in the car on the way home-looked like a full breakfast to me!  How fun! a new pup.  Hope you are not up to your ears in snow as we are-would be a tough start.

Good luck and enjoy!

On Pit Bulls and Parolees, they always bathe the dogs before they go to a forever home.  Hmmmmm.....maybe that has nothing to do with your question.....
