We here at DK really have no clue. Can you ask the breeder?
It probably depends on the breeder. I remember when I picked Guinness up he was clean, his ears had been done, and the Breeder clipped his nails and did a tiny face trim....he looked and smelled wonderful. I suspect this is what good breeders do.
I think good breeders do try to send you home with a clean pup. The breeder warned me that Calla might be messy since she flew for a long time. She was perfect but the airport was christened in a major way. I cleaned and disinfected after us though.
Daisy had a bath and was dry, done by the 14 year old daughter, she got another one when we made it home.
You should really ask your breeder.
I agree, I would wait with the bath. The puppy will be stressed enough.
You are the client, and without clients, the breeder would go out of business. You are paying a lot of money for a puppy and there are lots of other breeders out there. I do not think it would be "bugging" the breeder for a client to ask a question, or 100 questions, lol.
Our breeder gives them all baths on the day they go home... Your breeder should not give you a dirty puppy that would be in bad taste, in my opinion, as humble and accurate as it may be.
My pup was nice and clean with a hair clip and nails done. they told me they would not feed him that morning, but he threw up in the car on the way home-looked like a full breakfast to me! How fun! a new pup. Hope you are not up to your ears in snow as we are-would be a tough start.
Good luck and enjoy!
On Pit Bulls and Parolees, they always bathe the dogs before they go to a forever home. Hmmmmm.....maybe that has nothing to do with your question.....
