All during the wait to bring Luna home I confirmed multiple times with our breeder that Luna was a standard size doodle. I told her multiple times we wanted a big dog, and asked her to clarify because her website said "mini medium" on one part of her litter, but standard on the other.

She told me many times they were full size doodles.

Yesterday, I saw her comment on another litter mates parents facebook page about how their litter was mini medium. My husband and I are both confused on what to do. Obviously, we aren't going to give Luna up, we have had her since December and everyone has started to bond. However, we are also a little disappointed because she wont grow to be the size we just paid a lot of money for.

Do I even bother talking to the breeder, who is a friend? I feel like it's not going to change anything, and yet my frustration at knowing we just paid for her and our breeder didn't listen is also bothering me.

I am not sure what the right thing to do is.

Thanks!

So I am REALLY confused now. I just went back to her website to see if I could find help. I found the same mom/dad combo being advertised as a standard doodle averaging 40lbs. So is that normal? This is how it was on Luna's littler page. The link said Standard, but then when i would talk to her she would mention "mini-medium" and I would have her clarify, and she would always say standard. so maybe Luna is just a smaller scale standard because her mom is 50lbs? There are other litters that have standards at heavier weights. it's just hard knowing she will not be the size we wanted, is that selfish?

I think 40lb is on a smaller side.... I think most of them are much bigger, ranging like 50 lb and up....

The weight range for a standard poodle is 45-75 lbs.

While it is very disappointing to have a dog end up Smaller or Bigger then you planned for. Doodles are a mixed breed & no size can ever be guaranteed. I would tell her your disappointment. But I would move on & Enjoy Luna for what she is- Your Special Doodle.

I really wanted Trixie to be bigger then she is.  The breeder never told me her approximate size...I never asked.  I guessed it from her parents size on my own (it was the Parents 1st litter)  Trixie is the smallest in her litter.  she is 46-48#   The largest in her litter is about 82#   (most are around 55-60#)

She looks bigger then she is...We often get comments like - wow- look at that big white dog.

Trixie is the Best, Small or big

My niece's F2B standard doodle is 110 lbs. my breeder lists standards as 50 to 100 lbs. mediums as 25 to 50, and minis as 15 to 25
Personally, I'd let it go. We had a similar experience except we wanted a small standard. We were told Oscar would max out at about 40 lbs. Now, at 5-1/2 months, he's almost 45 lbs! We now project his max. weight will be 65 lbs. His mother was 45 lbs and his father 55 lbs. The breeder based her opinion on the fact that Oscar was the smallest male of the litter, and as small as the smaller females. When he's fully grown I plan to send her his picture with the caption, 'Our 40 lb. Dog', but more as a joke than anything. We love Oscar and don't care what weight he reaches at this point. We're thankful to have him, just the way he is (size wise).
