Help for cabin fever

[a.k.a. Rodney]

Hi folks, my pup is just 11 wks old and today had round # 2 of her vaccinations. Her vet said no walking or playing on sidewalks where other dogs have been till shot # 3 in three weeks. What's a person & Doodle to do?
Any good ideas I'm all open to
We have done some walking on my driveway & played some games, but there's nothing like a nice walk to tire out a rambunctious puppy!! In case you are wondering we live in fla. and are experiencing great weather...even more frustrating!!

We are getting our puppy in a few weeks and our breeder told us about parvo.  I had never heard of it before and now know how dangerous it is.  I know it must be difficult to not take walks with your puppy until all shots have been given.  Best of luck to you and I will be in your shoes in just a few short weeks.

Well I actually have a safe side yard..forgot about it till your reply..thanks. My back yard pretty much taken up by pool.

I understand the cabin fever!  We took Libby out in our backyard to play and run, but I was SO ready when the time came to take her for a walk.  It will go by fast, hang in there:)

We're in the same boat Rodney!!! I actually called my vet. and asked if I could take Holmes for a short walk even though I knew what her answer would be! She did say I could take a short walk but only on the sidewalk- to avoid the soil because that's where the bad stuff is. So we've taken 1 very short walk down the street (no sidewalks here) just a couple houses down. He was VERY excited and interested and distracted by everything! It was actually hard to get him to walk :) Luckily we have a fenced back yard we can and do run around. But I am dying to take him out in public- we're right next to Austin and there are a ton of dog friendly places and events going on. I'm sure FL has a bunch going on too. Hang in there!

I would think you could take him to Petco for an outing.  Just keep him in the carriage and carry him in and out.

Take your pup for a ride in the car. That is stimulating and tires out his brain. Many take their pups to Home Depot or other home improvement stores where the floors are concrete. There is lots of space to walk and lots of people to socialize the pup with. Others have suggested tennis courts. I hope you find lots of places to play with your new little buddy. You are so right that a tired pup is a good pup!

Take your puppy in the car and then carry him. Go to where there are children, older people, traffic.  Expose him to as many people as possible and as many sights and sounds as you can while he is in your arms. Puppy socialization is vital and the window of best opportunity is very short and unfortunately includes those weeks when you can't let him on the ground.  I visited neighbors and introduced them to my new puppy.  I stood where there was loud traffic and trains going by.  The school gate was a really great one with lots of children and so was the introduction to men in hard hats who were working with big machinery on the road. I invited lots of people to come and say hello to both of my boys.  Both of them have no fear of people or machines and as soon as they were able they went to puppy socialization to meet other dogs.  Enjoy your puppy because in the blink of an eye they are all grown up.

If you have friends or family with a safe backyard or indoor play space (and if they have animals, they are vaccinated), meeting new people and seeing new places were always my and Charlie's favorite things to do.
