I received some insurance reimbursement for Luca's tail. I spent $843.70 and other amounts not included on bandages and vet wrap for bandaging I did myself. My deductible is $200 and my copay is $20%. I received $381.18 today. Why you might ask, I did. Well, Luca was seen Feb 22 and that was $117.22 for the initial visit, bandaging and medication. But my plan renewed on 3/9. So Pet Plan paid me nothing for the first evaluation. Then Luca had his surgery in 3/11 and they started the deductible clock again.
Had I opted for surgery right away I would have been paid more. But had we been able to save the end of Luca's tail it would have cost Pet Plan less altogether. I think this repayment is grossly unfair and I will speak to a supervisor on Monday. I did mention to the fellow that I was speaking to that I belonged to a website of 10,000+ members and that many of us had PetPlan. If the supervisor doesn't help my son just reminded me that My writing to CEO's has been effective. To be continued.....
Update:
I did not get anywhere with the supervisor. I did email the CEO. I doubt that will help but we'll see. Meanwhile, lest you feel sorry for Petplan:

Good luck with this and hang tough. Hope Luca is at least feeling all better now.
We all recommend Pet Plan so often to new members. It seems like daily. After my recent episodes in January, now this, I hope they listen. Word of mouth runs deep.
I'll be watching.
Or, you can look at it this way.... this year, you paid, nothing. Meaning you paid your premium and got that back.
True, and I'd always rather not to have to collect.
It's part of the policy language..."your selected deductible will be subtracted from your reimbursement amount for each separate condition PER POLICY YEAR". You may get them to do something for you, but the problem would be that they would set a precedent which actually goes against the terms of the policy. Insurance Depts frown on that because treatment is supposed to be consistent across policyholders. Good luck though...I'm sure this is frustrating.
It's a minefield and I'm betting that it's mostly the insurance company who wins (unless of course there are DK members watching every move lol) I'll be interested to watch and see how you get on.....
True.
My own insurance works the same way. :(
Too bad we can't time illnesses and injuries to coincide with our policy renewal dates.
Good luck, F. I too hope Luca is feeling fine.
Sorry, F. Sounds like one of those Catch 22 situations. I'm looking forward to photos of Luca's jaunty new tail, once it's had time to grow out a little.
When I got insurance for Haley I did not choose Pet Plan because the deductible was per incident. I like the idea of deductible per year like it is with my own health insurance.
