Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We have been getting settled in Idaho, and the lot we purchased is heavily wooded so as the house is being build we take "walks" in the other areas of the lot.  Snicker has decided that he loves to eat deer poop YUCK. He has never eaten any other kind of poop so don't know why this is a thing now.  Anyone have any advice on how to stop him, (the command leave it which usually works is not working) I swear he thinks these are little morsels of candy the way he scoops them up.  As you can imagine he has had daily teeth brushings. But seriously I don't think it is good for him to eat it and don't really know what to do.   Thanks in advance for the advice.  Also attached is Snickers overseeing the new house building plans, thought some of you would get a kick out of the picture.

I have no advise other than to say HE IS ADORABLE and I am sure whatever suggestions he has for your plans should absolutely be considered!

No experience with deer poop, but the picture is adorable.  "The walk in doggie shower will be here.  The doodle feeding station will be over there.."

He is very cute, and apparently a good assistant!  About the deer stuff, I dunno.  :)

Snicker's is adorable and has a taste for the wild apparently ! However, you should be aware that deer do carry their own diseases, and parasites. I would keep him on worming medicine for sure, and check with your vet to find out if common deer diseases could be passed into their feces, and affect a dog. Good luck !

She's adorable!!! And wow the house blueprints look incredible! What an exciting project!!!
Zoe used to eat horse poop during a couple trails we used to take when she was a puppy. The other week we went on trails again I knew horses walked through and feared she would eat the horse poop and Ben would follow. Luckily she didn't!!! So I do believe they grow out of it ;)
When she was small I would say "no" so she knew she wasn't supposed to eat it but as a puppy she liked to do everything opposite

Mine loves Deer Poop!! Uuuggghhhh!!!

Charlie (4 years old ) ate a couple of times in a past, but Pinot Grigio ( standard - 7 months ) will sniff around in search of deer poop!! My yard is fenced in, so as long as they are in my yard, there is no problem. But we often goes to the county park, and that is when the problem is. Lately, I have been going only on the ski slope that is done for the season, since the area is still covered in fake snow. They love playing there, and there are no deer poop in the snow. When we walk through the park to get to the ski slope, I just walk on the paved area, really to avoid deer poop. I wondered if they were more concentrated in the certain area of the park or not, but they seem to be everywhere.... Once the fake snow is all melted, I have to think of something to keep him occupied so he won't be so concerned about deer poop!!

Deer poop and goose poop....caviar for Fudge and Vern. I am constantly yelling, "leave it!" on our walks. I did have a trainer once who told me to collect the goose poop (which I did not do) and work consistently on the leave it command as we walked by the poop until they left it. I try to be extremely vigilant on our walks, but I can't honestly catch everything, so I just try to tell myself it wasn't goose poop or deer poop at all :) LOL  Good luck. I think our dogs are so cute, so we still love them when they are so gross :)

BTW...I love the picture and good luck with your new home.

Sorry, no real advice here.  We have geese around us, so I have to constantly deal with that on walks, particularly with Bexter, although he's getting better about it now.  The "leave it" command is the only thing I can think of for that.  I do want to say that Snickers is absolutely adorable!  I love his color and his name!  I almost named Bexter Snicker for Snickerdoodle.  It looks like he is totally studying that house plan.  How cute!

@Kyoko - Love the dog name Pinot Grigio!  At first, I wasn't reading carefully, and I thought you were suggesting to pour some Pinot Grigio on the deer poop for some reason!  I was thinking...What a waste!

We also live in a "goose poop" area, as we live on a small river here in TN and there have been times we have had up to 40 in the backyard (after the little ones are born).  Monty has gotten so stealthy lately that he can gooble up poop faster than it takes me to reach him.  And of course, when I finally grab him and lead back to the house....he then does his best stop....drop and roll immitation!  Yes....the green looks quite stunning against his cream/light gold colored coat!  And it never fails....he always wants to give you a kiss when we get back to the house.  At any rate....wish I could break him of this habit.  Luckily....we do have a fenced area where the geese don't go and the geese are mostly around in the spring time, so we don't have to deal with it all year round.   Monty is not allowed near the creek unless we are with him, but this is our only open area in which to play tenni-ball.  Just don't understand why they are so drawn to this kind of thing.

But Robyn....Snickers is a doll and your houseplans look incredible!  I know he will be a big help in the planning of the house!  :)
