OK - I'm sure that some will think we are crazy. We just got Casey 3 days ago and have decided to add another puppy to our home. Casey is trying SO hard to play and doesn't have anyone to play with him. Our dachshund are too old and set in their ways to play and the cat just slaps him or spits!  We have the option of a black male with a very wavy coat, or an apricot female with a loose coat.  So - what do you think?  2 males or a male and a female?  (BTW - Casey is apricot with a medium wavy coat).

They will probably be somewhere around 50 - 60 lbs. according to the breeder.  Thankfully, we have a big house and a big yard. :)

I think you are BRAVE ... lol.  I could not handle two pups at once.  So either way you will probably be fine as long as the other pup is a good personality match for your current pup.

I talked to the breeder last night and she said that these two pups have the same type of personality that Casey has - very laid back and calm.  Of course, like any puppy - calm is only a momentary state of mind! That little calm ball of fur becomes quite animated at play time.

I'm with Adina... brave indeed! We had the option of getting 2 pups when we got Lucy (3-1/2 yrs ago) but since it  was our first dog, there was no way that was happening. I'm really glad we waited until Lucy was 3 before adding a 2nd (a male). Lucy is the kind of doodle who is ALL about play, and Oscar always has a play buddy. Plus, Lucy has done somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-60% of Oscar's training, laying down the house rules, so to speak, and keeping him out of trouble. She's even assisted with training Oscar commands. Its worked out really well  for us. Your pups WILL be able to keep each other occupied, which is a really good thing... hopefully they won't be partners in crime! My vote is for a female, but only because its worked for us. Our 2 are as different as night and day, with Lucy being more high strung and sensitive, and Oscar being mellow, laid back, with a come-what-may kind of attitude. Being as different as they are, somehow, some way, they make it work! Have fun choosing!

There was someone else who a while back posted about getting 2 puppies at once. Haven't seen any posts from them in a bit :)P  I like the black puppy so you would have 2 different colors zooming around the house make it easy to tell them apart.

We thought seriously about getting 2 puppies simultaneously & were warned not to. Puppies will bond to each other before they bond to you & will always feel closer to each other than you. We were told to add the second in 6 months to s year. So glad we did not get the second..

I've had some experience with 2 pups at once in the past. Our dachshunds are bother & sister litter mates. They were always SO precious playing together. They bonded well, but they also bonded with us very well. They are now 8 years old and even though they aren't thrilled with a new puppy in the house, they are handling it quite well.

Mayhem hmmm.  lol  I can just imagine!  I know what it was like when 2 - 10 pound dachshunds zoomed around the house. I can just imagine what it will be like when 2 doods start playing Indy-500 through the living room!  Actually - I can't wait.

We have always been a multiple dog family. I really cannot imagine what it would be like to have only 1 dog. In addition to always having at least 3 or 4 dogs, they have always been multiple sizes - usually 2 big and 2 small. For us, it has worked well.  However - I also had 4 children!! Something about multiples. :)  Since the kids are now all grown and gone, the 4-legged children keep me entertained and busy.

J -- Not sure what size your "big" ones were in the past, but one of the best pieces of advice I got when my girls were little was no running inside.  When they are 10 lbs it is cute.  When you have two at 60-70 lbs they can knock over the sofa.  So, they could roll around and wrestle, but any chasing was stopped immediately.  We also have wood floors so it was dangerous as well for them to be chasing inside.  Sounds like you have lots of experience with liter mates, multiples, and I don't really think the male female thing matters too much.

One big duo that we had was 45 lbs and 60 lbs. the second set of big guys we had were 55 and 80 pounds. I suspect that Casey and brother will each be somewhere between 50-60 lbs. however, as we all know - predicted weights do not mean actual weight! We have decided to go with the brother. He has a wavy coat that looks to be a bit tighter than Casey.
I have a Male/Female combo and they get along GREAT!!! They are the same color. I LOVE "2" of the same color Doodles, Definitely an Eye Catcher!!!! ENJOY~

How cute, there is a saying, "when you have one Doodle, you immediately want another"!  I wish I could talk my DH into this theory!  LOL  For me, it wouldn't matter which one, just a another Doodle and I would be happy:) Enjoy getting your new Doodle:)
