My neighbors 15p poodle mix came running into my yard and attacked Annie last night. Annie was leashed and pooping at the time. I've asked this neighbor before to keep the dog out of my yard. I made a report to Animal Control and the Officer is going to ticket them $532 for a dog at large fine plus, an unregistered dog fine. Annie was not hurt but this dog was biting Annie's neck and face and legs. I only reported it because they would of done the same. I have asked many times before to please leash the dog. Also, this protects us. If I don't show up to Court the $532 gets dropped..... We have had problems with this neighbor for 13 years and he's the issue causing neighbor in our "hood". So, do I show up to Court or let it drop? That is the question....oh the dogs name is Cujo and no he did not come to check on Annie or say sorry. He only said " you deserve it" to his dog.....

Unfortunately, some people learn the hard way that they aren't the exception to the rules that apply to everyone else.

What an unfortunate situation. Seems there's always one person in the neighborhood that doesn't follow the rules when it comes to dog ownership, and they have absolutely no respect or regard for others. We, too, have one, although his dogs don't attack. Still, they poop in everyone's yard and everyone in the neighborhood is very tired of picking up after his dogs. The neighbor in question knows of our distain for his allowing his dogs free reign of the neighborhood, and he has done nothing to change it. I'm for going to court, and I like the idea of recruiting others to come to testify on your behalf. I'm glad Annie wasn't hurt. Good luck!

I think that seeing this through is the right thing to do. With what is in your post and the extra information in one of your comments it is clear that by dropping it, it leaves opportunity for him to remain careless and sadly the next time Annie or any of the other neighborhood dogs may not be as safe.

There have been so many posts lately about dog attacks. I feel like I'm on ultra high alert now every time I walk Goldie. I think I'm becoming sort of paranoid.

I live in a gated comm. in fla. All very professional people. A Woman on a street there was walking her Maltese, Went out of the blue from another neighbors house came a huge shepherd And started to attack her little dog. Instincts being what they are She bent down to grab her little dog... The aggressive Shepherd decided to go after her... Needless to say she and her dog had been through hell medically because of the situation. And from what I understand emotionally too.
It seems that the aggressive dog Belonged to the larger communittee's member of the Brd of Governors. He refused to say he was sorry, he refused to do anything with the dog, and then lied about the fact that the dog was not leash. The general population really figured him out quite quickly and really have tried their best to get him to do the responsible thing. Long story short...there was such a backlash against him that he was forced to resign his position & he/wife were actually shunned socially. She was set up by him to be the fall guy & lied also. He had been a NYC cop & then became Mayor john Lindsay's special legal enforcer as an atty.... ( So a real tough guy). his house is up for sale now. And the woman who was attacked has a very wealthy son who is suing this guy major league. And apparently he has no insurance to cover the mess he in . But had the people not supported the woman who got attacked nothing much would have happened. STRENGTH in numbers!!

I think you were correct to make the complaint and since you did make it, you have an obligation to follow through with a court appearance.  Taking other neighbors would support your case.  I think if you feel 'guilt' in taking the money you could donate it to your favorite doodle rescue - my pitch for the DRC - in his name!!!!  Ask them to send him a thank you.  What a great revenge that would be.

LOVE IT!!! that gets my vote for sure.
I doubt the fine would go to Tante.

Right, the fine would likely go to the city right? Because it's for violating city laws?

I think so.

This is your decision, because your neighbor will remain your neighbor.  But if I did not fear retaliation, I would show up in court. And I would bring other neighbors, if possible, as support.  Good luck!

So sorry to hear about the attack, what a rotten situation. I hope that Annie feels better and that she has no lingering issues. Some people!!

The fine goes to the city.... I'm not sure if I can get my other neighbors to go to court......I think I just have to say what happened that day. Which I did in my report I wrote for Animal Control.
The more I think about it I'm certainly going to court. One I have a relationship with Animal Control from my work with DRC and I was a volunteer there. Second he is not going to change unless I go. Third it will start a war again but he started it back when we moved in 13 years ago. Thank God we do not live in a home owners association that would be a mess. We keep to ourselves it's why I have no idea what his wife's name is or his grown Sons. I only talk to 3 families out of 7. I like it that way. 2 of the families foster dogs which is why we talk. (Pit Bull and Aussie Shepherds)
I could maybe get them to go but I think they would want to stay out of it... Just so he doesn't turn on them. I know his dog has not gone after their dogs, they would of said something. I have not discussed it with any of them as well.
I saw him today working on this feeder fish tanks, he did not say anything not a word. He supplies fish for u fish places and things like that I'm not sure what else he does.

I think Brian is the most traumatized from this attack, he has never seen anything like it before. I'm still shocked Annie and Cujo were not hurt. Thankful but if you had seen it you would be shocked too.
