What an unfortunate situation. Seems there's always one person in the neighborhood that doesn't follow the rules when it comes to dog ownership, and they have absolutely no respect or regard for others. We, too, have one, although his dogs don't attack. Still, they poop in everyone's yard and everyone in the neighborhood is very tired of picking up after his dogs. The neighbor in question knows of our distain for his allowing his dogs free reign of the neighborhood, and he has done nothing to change it. I'm for going to court, and I like the idea of recruiting others to come to testify on your behalf. I'm glad Annie wasn't hurt. Good luck!
I think that seeing this through is the right thing to do. With what is in your post and the extra information in one of your comments it is clear that by dropping it, it leaves opportunity for him to remain careless and sadly the next time Annie or any of the other neighborhood dogs may not be as safe.
There have been so many posts lately about dog attacks. I feel like I'm on ultra high alert now every time I walk Goldie. I think I'm becoming sort of paranoid.
I think you were correct to make the complaint and since you did make it, you have an obligation to follow through with a court appearance. Taking other neighbors would support your case. I think if you feel 'guilt' in taking the money you could donate it to your favorite doodle rescue - my pitch for the DRC - in his name!!!! Ask them to send him a thank you. What a great revenge that would be.
Right, the fine would likely go to the city right? Because it's for violating city laws?
This is your decision, because your neighbor will remain your neighbor. But if I did not fear retaliation, I would show up in court. And I would bring other neighbors, if possible, as support. Good luck!
So sorry to hear about the attack, what a rotten situation. I hope that Annie feels better and that she has no lingering issues. Some people!!
