Myla is a swimmer - we cannot get her out of the water!  If we walk along the beach, she swims beside us.  If we throw sticks for her to fetch, she will swim out and get it but she will not get out of the water, she drops it as soon as she can touch bottom and waits for us to throw another!  If I swim out, she swims beside me - I'm so happy, none of my other dogs liked swimming!  This last week we camped at a river and she spent all day taking big rocks out of the water and dropping them on shore!  She would try rolling them out with her paws but then would submerge her whole head and come out with a big rock in her mouth, drop it on shore and go in for more!  She sure was the centre of attention!    Does anyone else have a doodle that does this??  I've never seen it before!

Shaggy is my first water loving dog and will dunk his head in the water bucket for ice. Not nearly as impressive as Myla's dunking for rocks!!! Do you have pictures or video? I would love to see her in action!

Roo will go underwater to retrieve things too.  Tigger swims, but likes to keep his head dry.  Maybe he is protecting his hairdo- haha.

That's great! We hope our pup will eventually get used to water. Right now he runs from the surf at the beach and wants no part of the pool but if there is a puddle of water somewhere he will be in it. :s

My Labradoodle, Bentley, absolutely loves the water and will fetch anything that I throw. If I take a hand sized rock and throw it into the water, he'll swim out to where it hit the water, dive under, somehow find the rock, and retrieve it. The first time it happened, I was actually somewhat annoyed at his constant badgering of me to throw something. I told him to find the stick and pointed out in the lake. He'd swim out and swim in circles and swim back. Finally, as there were no sticks handy, but a few small rocks, I just picked one up and tossed it in the lake, he brought it back. I thought, "no way". I threw it again, and he fetched it again. It sure looked like the same rock. He carried that rock back to our campsite, so I marked it with a black magic marker. Later that day I went to the lake with him and threw the rock in. He fetched it and sure enough, it's the same rock! I don't know how he does it, but he does!

He's a fetching machine!!!

That's incredible!  I was surprised that Myla put her whole head in the water to get rocks while standing - I've never seen a dog dive down under water!  I'd love to see that!

That is so cute!  Annie also loves the water and will waste no time getting into any available water, even stomping around in puddles.  She is still reserved about going out further than she can touch bottom, but if I go out further and call her to me, she will swim out and then proceed to try and climb up my leg, giving me nice bruises and scratches on my legs, haha.  When we try to have her fetch a stick, she will go to where she can touch bottom - but will not go any further, she just tries to paw at the stick from where she stands and then looks at me, like "well, how are we going to get it? I can't reach"

Quincy just started to go further out and actually swim with his feet not touching.  It took awhile!

Funny!

This is so funny and timely. Yesterday my daughter was throwing rocks for Fudge to go fetch in the water. When she quit, Fudge kept going back in and getting more rocks and then started playing with them on shore. It was surprising because she usually likes to keep her head dry.

How cute!  I've seen a couple of diving dogs, which is so amazing to me.  Trav starts wincing when his belly gets wet.  lol

Fozzie won't put his toes in the water, even to get a drink! I just say he hasn't embraced the water dog in him, yet.
