Yes, people always make comments about how huge Darwin is, they always think he's 90lbs or so. They are usually surprised when I tell them he's only 65. Nobody has said it negatively though, it's usually in good humor or even admiration
We get that all the time and I just agree with them. I think people are used to seeing the small fluffy white dogs, not a 65lb fluff ball. People do not say it in a mean way but more as if they are thrilled to see him. I had a couple today ( tourists) come up to us and say, we are dying to pet your dog is it Ok? People are always wanting to pet him and you don't see that happen to with most dogs.
Quincy is a pretty handsome boy, they couldn't help but want to pet him:))
My last doodle was 82 lbs and looked like a tall standard poodle. I'm 5'1 with a small frame. I live close to a main road and I would walk him just about every day, and EVERY SINGLE walk for the four years that I had him, at least one person would yell out a car window "Hey who is walking who? Hahaha" That got really old but I know nobody meant anything by it. I would get a lot of questions as to why such a small person would get such a large dog. He never seemed that huge to me, he was just my cuddly ball of fluff! I'm hoping my new pup gets big- I like not needing to bend over to pet him! :)
Yes, we get that all the time with Groucho Too. He is big - 85 pounds and 30 inches tall. Besides that, he is very protective and jealous. I feel very safe with him around. No other dog had even dare come up to me for a scratch. Most people have not seen poodles that large. But he is all love as soon as I tell him "It's okay."
I was just asked if I had a saddle for Meg on a walk the other day. I used to raise Great Danes so I really don't look at her as a 'big dog' but on the other hand there are many people that are just scared of big dogs so anything over medium is big to them. I never take 'big dog' as a negative remark, I love that she grew to be so tall.
Kash is super cute. I'd take it as a compliment, I LOVE BIG DOGS!!! Now, I typically don't like to hear that word when used to describe my thighs, arms, butt ...., LOL!!
Adrienne I so agree!!!! :))
Stanlee is a big boy, too. He's 84/85 pounds but tall. Last time he measured in at 28" and that was a number of months ago. Our St. Bermnard mix who weighs 95 walks under Stanlee. Me? I LOVE big dogs so when someone comments on his size I reply how nice it is not to have to bend down to pet my dog.
Yea, there are some in my photo albums. He has a hound dog coat but a St.B. look and attitude. He's a bit smaller (only 95lbs) but definitely sheds like one!!!
