Hi Jen! Welcome to DK! You've come to the right place to share your love of your doodle and to get GREAT advice and friendship.
I, too, am going through the dreaded coat change fiasco. Fun times. Goldie has an appointment with the groomer on Thursday and she is getting her fluffy hair all chopped off. I hear it makes life much easier for the dogs AND US!
I love the name Brisby! I've never heard it before. Very unique.
Jenn, it really sounds like a shorter cut is the way to go for a busy mom like you. You can keep Brisby looking fluffy - just a lot shorter.
welcome to DK. I love the name Brisby. My two doodles, Tigger and Roo sport a shorter cut all the time. It took me several tries (including myself) to find just the right groomer.
Hope you enjoy the company on DK.
Welcome to DoodleKisses - the best website for doodle lovers everywhere. As for the haircut, go with a short cut at the groomers. He will be more comfortable and you won't have to worry for a while. My suggestion: Learn to do your own grooming if you have the time and inclination. It is a great bond between dog and person, and you can make him look the way you want.
We got started with doodles when our poodle lost his companion, a shepherd mix. She had been with him his entire life and they were so bonded. He was very depressed and my husband and I were still working and our son was in school all day. I decided to get him a puppy and ordered a Welsh Terrier from a good breeder. The puppy was born and died when he was three weeks old (the only male in the litter). My BIL said to take a look at labradoodles as we like large poodles and labs are everyone's favorite dogs. So I did. During my research, I saw a dog who was a therapy dog for a boy in Finland who had a disability and could not go to school because they could not drive in winter because of the huge amount of snow. The labradoodle was trained to pull him in a sled to school, stay there with him, and bring him home in the afternoon. That sold me. I ordered a labradoodle that looked like that dog online (knowing that is not the best way to buy a dog) and that was ten years ago. We have been with doodles ever since. They are the greatest.
Welcome to DK! This is a great site for all things related to doodles--and more.
I have kept Chance's coat short during the coat change months, and it has helped tremendously with preventing matting.
Welcome to DK! The matting can be bad. The fluffiness is adorable, but a shorter coat is a lot less time consuming to take care of.
