Grieving

Yesterday we lost our 11 month old doodle, River, to septic shock. She ate an item of clothing, and it put multiple holes in her small intestine. Long story short, she never cried or showed signs of being in pain, we had no idea she had gotten ahold of a sock. At first all her blood work and stool samples came back negative for any kind of infection, but two days later it was clear we were losing her. She died yesterday on the operating table.

I am so heartbroken. I feel like I've lost a part of me. She was such a part of our family, she did everything with us, and followed me everywhere. She didn't even get to live a long life. I am aching inside.

I'm so terribly sorry to hear this news. Things can happen so fast.  Animals do a good job of hiding what is wrong with them-it's instinct and it is often a hindrance to our being able to help them when they need it. Though River's life was short you filled it with love and happy times.I hope you can find solace in those memories.

What a tragic thing to happen.  I am so very sorry.  River looks like such a gorgeous dog and I see she was a special part of your family.  Your hearts must be absolutely crushed.  It is hard to absorb such a shock.  

I have a friend who's dog has had 2 surgeries because he has ingested items he shouldn't and fortunately pulled through but it was scary.  It happens too often.  I wish your puppy pulled through and I wish we could heal your pain.   I lost my boy when he just turned 4 yrs old and it too was a traumatic shock.  I feel for you and your family.  Looks like you gave her a happy and very loving home.   She should have had many more years with you.  Please share your photos of her when you want and talk about her with people that understand your love for her and reach out for comfort.  I hope you find it.
