Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hello all, wondering if anyone has their Doodle on long term Probiotics? I discovered this worked miracles for my dog. She's 4.5 has been on Animal Essentials (plant enzymes & probiotics). Helped with her sensitive digestive track as well as keeping her ears. She came to us with one side infected. Occasional common flare ups.
Here is where it gets tricky. She's on a high grade grain free diet. Recently starting excessivily itching. The probiotic was the last item removed from her diet. It appears this may be her allergy! My holisitc pet food store thought it could be her food (salmon based) as I had not switched it up in awhile. That I hear can cause an allegros reaction to the protein.
In short, I would really like to try another probiotic eventually. But need to get away from the current one. Any recs? Also, does anyone give one daily long term? Thank you!

I do the same. Just sprinkle it on the food.
We use Gentle Digest as well, but not on a daily basis. Only when needed for an upset tummy.
What we started using daily is Vital Digest from Only Natural Pet Store. It's all natural digestive enzyme product made from a combination of four natural plant-derived enzymes (lipase, amylase, protease, and cellulase).
I recently tried Proviable DC based on recommendation from Karen (Karen & Jackdoodle) and it worked wonders for my Shelby. The vet had recommended Fortiflora - which she has had before and loves, but the Purina name/practices concern me. I got the Proviable DC from Amazon for about $30 for 80 capsules. I opened them and sprinkled the powder on her food, she licked the bowl clean. I am not sure about long term use... I used 20 capsules and we are back to normal, but Shelby has a sensitive tummy and the package is good for another 16 months, so I will use it again when things get "out of whack".
Interesting Karen, re: Claritin. Take one daily myself for allergies. Would be simple to give one to my girl too :). Yes, I have forgone the Benadryl. Don't feel it's severe enough. Happy to hear the shampoo is working for you. Feel more comfortable now. Do you use it for all bathings? Also agree on the Antibiotic. If she was not sure it was an infection.... wonder why it was given? Before our visit, used a little bacitracin. Worked well. I am all about doing this as natural as possible. Know it's going to take time to figure it all out, and that's ok. If we can't grasp it, next stop will be the dermatologist. Seems like I am on the right track already. Thanks again!
We use Douxo for all baths. The most important thing when using it is that the lather must stay on for at least ten minutes before rinsing.
Just curious, Karen, which formula of Douxo shampoo you use. I did a quick google search for 'Douxo' and found there are several different ones.
Douxo Calm.
Thanks!
