Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello!

We are looking at getting an F1b Goldendoodle in 2014, and a breeder I am considering does genetic testing on all of her dogs, and notes that the males have blue ribbon status and the females have red ribbon status. Are both acceptable?  Thanks so much for your guidance.

I have never heard of these terms in regard to health testing. So I "googled" them - the only place they come up on the internet is on 1 Goldendoodle Breeder site - I assume it is the breeder you are looking at.  Unless anyone knows anything different I think they are terms this breeder has come up with and would ask them to explain.

Wendy, I haven't ever heard of this either.

I think you would do well to read Adina's notes:

And go from there...

No such thing as "blue ribbon and red ribbon status", just a breeder's gimmick. There are no official designations or terms such as those related to health testing. Either they are health tested or not, either they have clearances or acceptable scores on the tests or they don't. End of story, no ribbons, lol.

Okay, these are terms used by the Goldendoodle Breeder's Assn to describe what types of health testing has been done on a breeder's dogs: http://www.goldendoodleassociation.com/health_testing.aspx

Well we all learned something new here. I had never heard of this either, but it;s there on the site

im witing for my doodle and if everthing  go good I should have her  sometime in winter 2014, and Im getting all the information  I can. When Im surffing all over the Internet  I see the New born puppies  they have all the differnet colors of ribbons on them.. What it that mean exactly???

So they can tell them apart

Yes, just a way of identifying pups, who especially as newborns can look very much alike. Breeders need to follow weights and such things to make sure all pups are doing well.

Thanks, all. Sounds like it's not a widely used classification, but I did see it on the Goldendoodle Association site. I won't worry too much about it and will just look for breeders that do the extensive health testing.
