Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

An old friend of mine just had a tragic loss when her six-month-old, male mini labradoodle was killed in a fire while being boarded over Christmas vacation.

The family is distraught, but they adored that puppy, and they would like to get another.

If anyone knows of a similar aged puppy that might be available, will you let me know? They live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, but they are willing to travel somewhat.

I know their dog was quite mellow, and both spouses work full time, so they wouldn't be looking for a dog who is being given up due to energy issues if that makes sense...

Thanks so much!

What a horrible tragedy, I am so sorry for them.

Keep an eye on the DRC rescue page running on the bottom of the main page
I cannot even imagine having to go through a tragedy like this . How sad for the family:(

Oh, so sad! I am sorry to hear this--might be hard to locate a 6 month old pup anywhere--but get in touch with Doodle Rescue Collective and see what they can do to help.

What a horrible story....I wish them luck in finding a new baby!

I know, it broke my heart when she sent me a note telling me about their news. We had been swapping tips and emailing back and forth since we got our puppies just weeks apart. Her daughters are the same age as my daughters, too, and my girls would be inconsolable. I will suggest she look on the DRC website. Thanks!

DRC doesn't adopt to families with children under 10, and most legitimate rescues have similar policies, so if she has younger kids, adoption may not be an option.

Her kids may be older than 10. I know one of her daughter's is the same age as my older daughter (who is almost 11), and I "think" her other is either a year younger or a year older.

Just found this article on the fire. I think your friend's puppy is the one pictured. 18 dogs died. What a horrible, horrible tragedy. http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/pet-owners-seek-answers-after-quebec-k...

Another place that is supposed to take care of your pet yet leaves them unattended.  So important to ask that question and not assume there will be someone around.  So tragic.

I hope the people who lost their dogs have legal recourse and sue the kennel owners for everything they have. It won't bring the dogs back, but maybe it will teach a richly deserved lesson.

I just watched it and cringed. Her dog was Marley, so I'm not sure that was him. But yes, so horrifying to think about all those dogs trapped. My husband is a former lawyer, and he feels like it is inexcusable that a kennel would hold dogs without proper fire precautions in place and constant oversight. We had to leave Lexi at puppy daycare for the first time this week as we had to travel unexpectedly for the day, and it was really hard for after hearing this story. (I was being neurotic, but I couldn't help it...)

I don't blame you. I've never boarded a dog in my life, and after hearing this, you couldn't pay me to do it.

The dog in the picture was named Dexter, and looks like a doodle to me. Poor, poor dogs, what a horrible way to die, trapped, alone and terrified . I hope they make the kennel owners pay for their suffering.
