Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have finally summoned up the courage to attempt to groom Maxwell myself. After much research through various sites, I decided to purchase the Andis AGC Super 2-Speed Professional Animal Clipper with Locking Blade. Unfortunately, I can't find guide combs to fit the blade. Does anyone use this clipper? If so, where do you find the combs? Do they make longer combs like 1-1/2"?

I will return the clippers if I can't find Combs. Any suggestions for good clippers under $200 for a large goldendoodle with wooly fleece type coat?

I purchased both a generic plastic comb set (longest is 1.5 inches) and a couple of the ceramic blades (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_14?url=search-alias%3Daps&...) on Amazon.com. I only got a couple of these as they are expensive (#10, 5f, #3 and 7F). I use the #10 is for the sanitary, and the #3 is for the body, and then 7F or 5F for finishing everything else.

I don't use the plastic comb set (except for on my husbands hair!!). I find that it snags in the long hair on the dogs.

Good luck with your first groom. It is a learning process so be patient with yourself and your friend : ]

Janice- Do you use the same clipper I have then? I have a generic plastic guide, but it is too "short" to fit on the blade.
Andis UltraEdge AGC Super 2-Speed Animal Clipper is the clipper I just purchased, and I got the Andis Pet 8-Piece Stainless Steel Comb Set to go with it. I used it it briefly yesterday to just start getting Yogi used to the sound and feel of it before I need to do an all over trim. They say to use these combs with a #10 and #30 blade. So I think these should cover what I'll need. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Btw, after my brief time using it, I really liked it.
Thank you! I think that is the clippers saw on sale at Petsmart. I think I will go there today and talk to the groomers there and see If what they recommend. At least if I get the clippers there they can point me in the right direction as to which guide combs will fit.
You can also research online. I got my grooming stuff from amazon, lots of info there
That's where I bought all of this. I thought I was safe because both the clippers and the guide combs were together under the "frequently bought together" section, but they definitely don't fit! Lol
Btw. That's one big dog you got there, it might take you awhile to groom him! Lol
You could always get the andis comb attachments
Yeah, it takes the groomers 3 hours so it will probably take me 6! Lol
I did buy andis combs but they still don't fit. I will probably return the clipper and buy one that fits. Combs! Lol
I have to wonder if you're putting the comb on correctly? It took me a bit to figure it out. It hooks on over sharp cutting edges first, then snaps down over the end by where it says andis on bottom of the blade. It did take a little umph to push it on.
. You might even try hooking the bottom first, I saw a comment stating that on your model.
I'm thinking I might spread my first trimming out over a couple days at first for his sake as well as mine.
Yep. I am really stupid. I was just shown that the comb is spring loaded. Duh. I was afraid to damage the blade so it didn't try to force it. I was just taught the correct way to put the comb on.

I have to agree with Leslie, you must be trying to put the combs on incorrectly. You want to line the back of the comb with the back of the clipper head and then slide the comb forward until it locks over the front of the clipper head. Here's a short video showing exactly how to attach the comb (they're using a plastic comb, but metal ones attach exactly the same way).

I wanted to add, that there's a metal piece on the back of the comb that hooks over the back end of the clipper blade (holding it secure) so you can slide the comb forward over the front end.
