Our Roxy is 10 months old and has been a good eater up until a couple of weeks ago. She's just very finicky! She has been vomiting bile from an empty stomach, too. I took her to the vet yesterday, and he suggested Pepcid AC and putting her on prescription ID Diet. She ate this morning...yay! She hasn't shown interest in breakfast for days!
Thank you...I did join the Food Group, but I'm having trouble finding anything specific about the ID Diet. Is there a particular discussion you're referring to? I don't have time to read through everything there to find the pertinent information. Can you suggest a way to find it? I already did a search on "ID Diet," but it just brought up a bunch of threads, which I started to read, but it seems like searching for a needle in a haystack.
I went ahead and started a new discussion about ID Diet in the Food Group.
Yes! Casey often does the same thing. What a relief to know he's not the only one. :~)
Bay is the pickiest eater, even when it comes to treats. She will leave her food for hours. Now I take it away and cover it in fridge and try again later. Buzz, on the other hand...well, let's just say I entered to win the speed eater bowl, lol! He could care less what's in the bowl, he's on it!
My Max is a picky eater. I do add toppings, which I know a lot of people frown on, but he's a puppy and I feel like he needs to eat. If I did not add toppings he would just leave the dry food there (I did try no toppings) I do add things like pumpkin, yogurt and grain free canned food. He loves treats, freeze dried meat of any kind, mother hubbard cookies, bits of cooked meat. Fruit, veggies, pretty much anything. My DH is bad about giving Max stuff he should not have and I have to scold him all the time to stop giving the dog people food and he's finally starting to get it. He loves his kongs too I stuff them with a mixture of salmon packed in water, or tuna packed in water with yogurt, pumpkin and frozen peas and carrots then freeze them. Max also loves to eat dead things, any dead thing he can find on our walks, it's pretty gross. He is getting a bit better with that, but uggh.
Many of us do homecook for our dogs and it is not frowned upon to give dogs wholesome "people" food. They can and thrive on real foods but there are a few things to avoid (onions, raisins, grapes, chocolate). Anything else is fair game. My dogs love frozen veggies right from the freezer as treats. They eat chicken and brown rice with veggies added and by making it yourself, you know what ingredients are in it. Prescription Diets are not made with good ingredients and are always rated very low on recommendation list websites. There are also many good supplements with vitamins and probiotics that will help regulate their systems. I use Missing Link. I have been homecooking since the 2007 recalls that killed many dogs, including my std poodle, Magic.
