Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I'm just curious… our Dood constantly "holds hands." If we are sitting on the couch, he puts his paw up and we have to "hold" his paw. This can go on all night. If people come over and he sits in front of them, he sits and hands them his paw. He pretty much wants people to hold his paw all the time unless he's sleeping, playing with a toy and eating. It's very sweet but it had me wondering. First, is this a poodle trait? A golden trait? Or just a Ridley trait? And second, is it a specific dog behavior? Like does he want something else? And the silly humans just keep holding his paw?? He seems happy, he almost falls asleep standing up while holding hands. :o)

Yes, our doodles do this too!
Mine does it, too. Her mother does it also, yes, if she can't hold hands then touching is a decent substitute. She is the first dog I have ever seen that does it.
Meg does it but Polly hasn't started it yet.
Daisy loves holding hands also. :)
Darwin offers his paw too, it's so cute. :-)
Both of my boys do that and I love it. It usually happens during a quiet time. They would come site next to the couch and offer their paws very gently. I have no idea how that started. Monty loved to hold hands when I was driving my Ford Focus and he could still fit on the front seat. We would lift his paw and I would hold it while he was looking out of the window. Too funny.
Trav will put his paw up sometimes when he's close and wants a treat. Or if I'm grooming him and he wants to stop. It doesn't seem to be an affection thing.
My guy likes to put his head on my lap but if he can't, a paw will do :)
Yep - Sophie does this all the time. She will just offer the paw so she knows we see her and then if we are petting her she sometimes puts our arm in the paw lock down (that's what our son calls it!) so we don't stop. Cute in a demanding sort of way!!
