Last night we tried having Daisy sleep in our room for the first time. Up until now she has slept in her crate every night but we got her a nice big dog bed (which she likes) and attempted to have her sleep on our floor.
Well, needless to say I had to bring her back to her dog bed like ten times (she kept jumping on our bed) which was understandable...BUT THEN SHE WOKE UP AT 5AM ON THE DOT!!! And she wanted to PLAY!!! When we have her in her crate she won't make a peep until we come and get her so we are able to get a good night's rest.
What do we do!??
Should we keep her crated until she's a bit older?
Maybe have her sleep on her dog bed in the living room instead of our bedroom?
We really want her with us but it was tough to get any sleep with all of her craziness lol!
God love this doodle!!

I would say keep her crated until she is a bit older - especially if she is so good about sleeping in it. We tried to crate Preston at night, and he would not have it, so he sleeps with us on our bed (and snores loudly!). He was the runt of the litter, and just wanted to snuggle, so that's why we let him sleep with us, but he stays on the bed and sleeps all night. I guess I would just keep doing whatever works for you!
That's funny! - (said the person who was not awakened at 5am). Quincy was even younger, but was in our bed for Hurricane Sandy the first night he was out of the crate. It was freezing cold in our house as we had no lights. The rest is history. He roams at night: our bed, the floor and the shower floor when it is hot. Once the novelty wears off-she may settle in.
This was my experience with our pup, Hank, sleeping in our room:
Hank hated sleeping in his crate from the start so we have had him in our room since about a month after getting him. We have his bed on the side of ours but he lays all over the place, rarely does he actually sleep ON his bed, it's usually in front of the patio door or in the middle of the room. Which is completely fine with us, I don't expect him to sleep right on his bed. My alarm goes off at 5am, so he is always up that early, we go potty, I feed him and we get the day started (I'm a morning person). If it's the weekend and we want to sleep in, I still get up at 5am, potty, feed him and then he'll come back in our bedroom and go back to sleep. We do let him on our bed in the mornings but not at night and he knows not even to try at night. I actually think as he gets bigger (he's 6 months now) he doesn't really like sleeping on our bed. I think it gets too hot for him.
Maybe try having her sleep in the crate in your room first?
Tenley's been sleeping out of his crate since he was 4 months old - he has always slept through the night (usually in the human bed). One thing I've always done though is make sure to really, really ramp up his exercise at the beginning. Keep him up for a few hours before bed. Then he would be exhausted by bedtime.
(I wouldn't recommend letting most pups have free reign at 4 months - Tenley, for some reason, has never had an accident or chewed/picked up anything that wasn't his.)
Bentley is 14 months old and we still have him sleeping in his crate most of the time. He sleeps with my husband and I if my daughter is not home bc he sleeps in his crate in her room. We also found he would wander and get into things, try to get on the bed (it's too high for him) then he'd jump off, etc. He also thinks it's playtime on the bed and digs. He's better but as long as he sleeps happily in his crate, we will do that. We just started leaving him alone at home, out of the crate during the day for a few hours at a time, and he's done great!
We got Hurley when he was 3 months old. We had him sleep in his crate the first couple of weeks initially with the crate by my side of the bed and then gradually moving it further away. We always had the crate in our bedroom. He seemed to be restless in it so after a couple of weeks we put him on the bed with us and he was there every night until he was brave enough to jump down on his own and go lay on the tile to sleep. First couple of nights on the bed he moved around and then he found where he wanted his place on the bed to be and from then on there he slept. If he had to go out he would fuss and nudge me to take him out.
At 8:45 I would tell him 'bed' about 3 times and point to the bedroom. He would always go jump on the bed and settle down. Now at 8:45 he crashes usually on the tile or on the sofa. Hurley is 30 months old now.
