Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I don't know if other doodles do this or if I have written about it before, but my ALD loves to watch television.  My husband is an old western movies fan and Harpo particularly loves horses running.  He sits on the end of the couch and watches television until there is a horse or a dog on the screen and then he runs up and stands up and jumps at them.  He used to hit the screen, but now just basically stands up and gets as close as he can without touching the television.  I have never had a dog as into television as he is.  It is funny to watch.

Lucy is our TV watcher.  She lays her chin on the arm of the sofa towards the TV or on the foot board of the bed.  She doesn't get excited with every dog, but occasionally one gets her attention and she runs towards the TV.  AnnaBelle will watch some, but not as much as Lucy.

For our pack it's only when another dog is on. ;)

Usually Finnley's attention is grabbed with an animal show of some kind. She will stop right in her tracks to watch. Then she moves on, as if it was nothing.

Meg likes to watch dogs on TV but if one barks or a car horn goes off both of my girls are at the window barking to make sure they are not in our driveway or yard.

Our Madeline watches TV. Loves Animal Planet or any show with animals. Sometimes she barks so much we have to change the channel. We have never had a dog do this. Very into her surroundings.

Charlie likes watching too... he knows the music/sounds associated with animals on TV, and almost has a sixth sense of when they're on. I'm working on teaching him to just watch, not to bark or jump.

I am convinced that only some dogs can see the TV--might be something to do with their visual abilities--two of my doodles react to sounds or a large pattern on the TV but ignore it otherwise. However, my third doodle can see animals and will leap up to the TV and bark at cats or dogs on the set--these new lighter TVs are an issue--I am afraid the TV will get knocked over! I heard a vet on the radio say that dogs can not see TV--ugh, how do you explain this??

Oh, I know.  The vets also say that dogs cannot get poison oak and I know that is not true.  I really think that Harpo had systemic poison oak and it took him a while to get over it (prednisone).  And he definitely watches television.  My other dogs have not been television watchers although they all seem to listen to television and react to some visual clues but mostly auditory clues.  Both dogs also come running if I have a video on the computer with animal sounds.  They can't see the video but they sure react to the sounds.

Maserati watches TV. Bentley & Porsche don't seem to mind unless there is a dog barking on the program.

I have read where dogs see the same as we do if the tv is digital.  Charlie loves to watch tv and has since he was just a puppy.  He knows all the commercials that have dogs in them.  If he is in the bedroom with me and hears a particular commercial start while my husband is watching tv in the great room, he will take off running to get to the tv to watch it.  He loves the Geico lizard too!

Oh my goodness, My Sulley (GD) does the exact same thing!!  His favorite commercial is the Range Rover "Scent" commercial!  He will run from any area of the house to watch that one.  He loves football, The Dog Whisperer, and any program where the human is close up and talking.  When I have to leave home, I always leave the TV on ESPN or SEC network!!  Doodles are so much fun!

Picco will watch. We hang out with him on the floor in the evenings and most of the time he'll be watching with us. Usually baseball or some animal/nature show. He doesn't get excited over baseball so I guess he can't see the ball well enough, but then I have trouble sometimes.
