Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I don't know if anyone else has kept a log of their doodle's growth rate, but I've been weighing him every week and yesterday I started measuring him. As of now (11 weeks) he is 18 lbs (probably more like 19 because he did get sick on an earthworm the night before) and 14 inches at the shoulder.
The height is kind of scary because next Friday is his 12 week birthday. I found a general doodle growth chart which said that I can basically expect him to double in height. Even right now that would put him at 28 inches full grown. He is a big boy (I believe he was the biggest in the litter). I was wondering if anyone had a labradoodle of comparable size at this age?
Though, I have to admit, I'm kind of excited at the prospect of having a 28-30 inch dog. I've always preferred the bigger dogs... I just did not anticipate it possibly happening with this guy. I told my parents I would stay away from the really big dog breeds for the time being until I moved out. He's thin like a poodle would be... but I'm starting to think he'll probably end up the size of a male greyhound (weight and height). I'd say his mom was about 24-25 inches at the shoulder. Not sure about dad... he was studded out to the owner of the mother. I just know that he was cream and no cream puppies were had (all black, with a few having a grey mask, but not to the extent of Orwell's).
What would your guys' analysis be?

The rule is not about height but about weight. Is he a standard? If not, the 4 month growth rule doesn't work.
I don't really believe in any set "pattern" for doodles. The genetics are just too varied. Based on my doodle's growth, I doubt he will turn out to be nearly that large, but who knows. My pup, Ragley, was 19 lbs at 12 weeks. She is now one year old, about 55 lbs, and approx 23-24" at the shoulder. Most standard doodles stop growing way before their second birthday, though, so I'm not sure where the basis for that chart is?
The thick black vertical lines on the chart represent a year. I'm really interested in the height because it is not used that much to guess anything. I know there is a good reason for that, but I think it would be cool to have a height chart for every breed. Honestly, he reminded me of an Irish Wolfhound puppy in appearance when I saw him. I just learned that he has less mass, though.
My Rosco is about 100 lbs and 27.5" to the shoulder. He weighed in at 10 lbs for each month of life until about 8 months where he slowed down. So he was 30 lbs at 3 months (~12 weeks). But that doesn't mean that your pup might not be just as tall. My friend had a poodle mix of unknown heritage who weighed half as much as Rosco but was a few hairs taller than him.
For Rosco 100 lbs is a little 'over' his ideal weight, so ideally he'd be in the low 90's.
He's such a cute big boy. How big were his paws when he was a puppy? Orwell's are huge and look huge on him... I am assuming he will grow into them. The rest of him is definitely lanky. Your guy looks more like he has a lab body.
My 13 week old doodle is 16.8 pounds (we have not measured his height). He is expected to mature at 18 months at around 43-45 pounds. Our 2 year old doodle was 22 pounds at 16 weeks and matured to 44 pounds at 18 months.
Georgia was 18.5 lbs at 12 weeks. At 16 weeks she was 25.6.
I never bothered to measure her height.
Today at 1 year she is 48lbs and about 23-24 at the shoulder. She has been a pretty consistent 48 lbs for the last 3 months so I don't expect her to to anything but fill out a little.
Her parents were 42 and 55.
So he does seem to be a bit on the large side, then...
I picked him up yesterday and he has to be 20 lbs by now. He felt a lot heavier than he did right after he got sick.
I never measured Oscar's height, but I did keep a record of his weight from 11 weeks on.
I was very curious, too, at Oscar's 11 week mark, since our breeder had said he'd be a smaller standard Labradoodle, getting no bigger than 40 lbs., but at 11 weeks, 2 days he was 19.6 lbs. Much bigger than Lucy at that age (and she matured to 55lbs). He also had HUGE feet (and still does, compared to Lucy's dainty feet). He gained 2lbs a week for many weeks. He just turned 2 yrs old recently and weighed 69lbs and was 25" at the withers. Oscar was the smallest male of his litter and as small as the smaller females. His father was 55lbs and his mother was 40lbs., so he topped both of them in weight. I have no idea how big his litter mates ended up getting, but that's something I would love to know! Oscar has a stocky, solid body, but with long legs. His curly coat is really the only thing Poodle like on him. Here's the original discussion on Oscar, along with all the updates on his weight progression:
