Is anyone using Nexgard, oral flea and tick preventative? Opinions anyone?

Our Vet recommended Nexgard for fleas. It's made by the makers of Front.ine, but is a beef flavored pill. Same coverage for fleas and ticks, for 30 days. Wanting to try as the topical presents a problem in the summer with dogs swimming several times a day. Anyone have and insight into this new product?

I have given it to my doodles and my basset.  They love it, and I love that it's not on their fur, where one of the others could lick it.

I agree Susan. It is going well with my two these past 3 doses. I will continue to use.
I used frontline last month because I had some leftover and wanted to use up before getting more Nexguard. I was reminded of how nasty it is on their fur and the inconvenience of waiting for it to dry why about 10 min after application, Murphy got into the pool. Just to his belly, but had to stop him from enjoying his normal morning swim. I can't wait until I have it all used up and can go back to Nexguard. I'm finding that my two show no signs from using it.

How are the pups  doing with the nexguard? I just bought some from the vet..we were using vectra, but i hate the topical, and they said mostly everyone in the office was using nexguard.  Plus I found two fleas on George last night, which we then bathed him, combed and everything..it was after he came home from doggy day camp. Vaccuumed and washed and everything last night. I combed him super well this morning and he had nothing on him.

Toni, my two are doing very well and have been on it for 6 months. I have had no issues and actually am really putting it to the test as we are now up at our cabin just outside of Tonto National Forest with Deer and Elk running through the yard all the time. So I am very aware of ticks as well. Nothing so far. I am staying with it until something concrete comes out in the research or my two have a reaction.  Bella usually does have reactions to immunizations, so I think if she is my sensitive one, I would have seen something by now.  As for dry skin, that has not been an issue at all either.

I had a live flea on Bella after the dog park earlier in the year, she was on Frontline then. I did what you did and never had another issue, but besides never going to the dog park again, I switched to Nexguard. Good luck

Toni, we have done fine with it. No side effects at all. It doesn't repel, though. When I want to actually repel ticks, I spray her with cedar oil, too. We were in the Hudson Valley last weekend, and I pulled two ticks off before they had a chance to bite, so I can't comment on the effectiveness. But from a health standpoint, she is doing great.

We were using Vectra and I found two fleas on George after dog day camp, and that is supposed to repel, so who knows, right? Though they could have been dying at that point.  The vets office suggested the nexguard. As long as it kills them I'm good...it's fleas that completely freak me out. I'm still recovering. I had put some flea flicker tick kicker spray on him and it made him sick...scared the hell out of me..do you use cedarwood essential oil?  I have some of that and does it work for fleas also?

Interesting Shari. Good to know as we are now in a tick area more often as well.

I am going to give Nexgard to Bailey for the fourth time in the next week or so.  She is doing fine and we have had no ticks or fleas!  Great stuff!

Are you in a tick area? We just bought a cabin the the forest and dear and elk are everywhere, so I will be putting Nexguard to the test soon.

We are in the woods and there are deer and wild turkey walking through our yard every day.  We do not have a fenced yard and when I take Bailey out she is on leash and we walk the streets and grassy areas only.....however, the deer have been walking on the same surfaces!  Believe me we have ticks!  My husband and I get them on a regular basis when working in the yard!  Wish I could take Nexgard! LOL   A couple months ago there was one dead tick on Bailey and it was not engorged so I believe it died right away after it bit her but I can't even be sure it bit her!  This summer there have been a group of five who are here all the time....A deer with twins and one with a single baby.  We have watched them grow and they have been so cute to watch.  Bailey is at the point where she thinks they are neighborhood dogs!   Have fun in your new cabin!!

I have used Frontline for years, but hate the way it dries the skin and coat.  Ned mats even worse for a couple of weeks after I apply it and my springer gets dandruff.  My question is to  those of you who use Nexguard.  Does it do the same thing to the skin after they take it?
