Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Our boy came home on Friday (the 9th). My daughter decided on naming him Otis (but we find that everyone just calls him Oat). He's been SO GOOD!? I'm worried that we are really "in for it " soon because he's been TOO good! Lol.
He sleeps through the night. After only 3 days, he started going to the door and whining when he wants to be let out. And, besides that, he just eats and lays around! Granted, I told the breeder I wanted a LAZY dog...but this seems too good to be true!? I almost feel like he hasn't "woken up" yet. Lol.

I've attached some pics but I'm on an iPad, so they are attachments. Sorry!
The first pic I included is my daughter and Otis. I walked into her bedroom last night to find her and her baby cuddled up, fast asleep! The sight of it made me realize that all of our time and money is worth every penny! They're so in love! :)
The second pic is a pic of our boy's face. I think his facial furnishings are looking pretty good? He's too cute!
The third pic shows what he does when he's not eating.....he lays around! Lol!

Oh how I ADORE him!! We were also blessed with a "too good to be true" puppy. His name is Otto (close to Otis!) and he's now 14 weeks old, looks a bit like your guy but lighter in color. :)

From my very limited experience with goldendoodles, I can easily say he's been the best dog I've ever owned, which doesn't happen to be very many. Otto slept in his crate through the night at 9 weeks and mostly using the bathroom outside, he has had about 3 accidents but he definitely "gets it". I can also tell you from my own experience, that they do definitely sleep A LOT more when they're younger and my guys still naps frequently, but not nearly as long or often as he did when he was 8-12ish weeks. One other constant issue is nipping. We have a 6 and 4 year old boys, they are very active and Otto thinks it's playtime. Lots of holes in the backs of their shirts. So we're trying a few different tactics to stop this behavior but it's just as much about training our kids as it is about the puppy.

Anyway, congratulations on him, he and your daughter are so darn cute!!!!

He is precious! He sounds like an awesome boy! :)

Adorable!

He's adorable! You may have just lucked out, or he will soon get his second wind. Either way, he looks like a keeper to me!

Kate was 17 weeks when we got her and she was very obedient.  Around 8 months old she decided she could.  She has always mouthed your arm but I have that pretty much in control.  She would grab your pants but that is OK now but the jumping when you are sitting she can't contain herself.  I was on the recliner with the puggle and she jumped up on the end. I was afraid we might tip.  She so wants to be a lap dog.

I love the photo of Otis and your little girl. How sweet is that?

As far as a honeymoon period, it could be that. Having said that, our Kona was a most remarkable puppy and remains a remarkable dog at 7 almost 8 years. He really was the most mellow puppy imaginable. We thought this breed and breeder are amazing and got doodle number two for our daughter three years later. Um... it was just Kona. His little half brother was trouble from the word go. At four years old he still steals things off the counter, runs like a wild deer if his leash drops off and acts like a nut-case when someone comes over. Kona would never touch people food, if his leash fell off he would stand still and he acts like a nut when someone comes over (but his nut means he is wiggling from head to tail not doing backflips to get attention). You may have gotten an angel of a pup. They do exist. I hope so!

I was glad  we got a laid back pup.  I am not sure I wold have coped with an energetic one.  They are lovely, aren't they?

When Orwell was that age we could take several naps together throughout the day (which was nice, because I was up earlier than I was used to at the time), he also slept through the night from day one, did not cry, and was super easy to potty train. Now, I would say he has a bit more energy. He loves doing things with you and likes to play. His off switch (for a while when he got into playing he just wanted to go go go) is getting better and at night he will lay down with me and my family. Our biggest problem throughout puppyhood was nipping, but it is under control now (he is 6 months).

Sounds like you got lucky. When I met my dog at 8 weeks, all he wanted to do was take a nap in my lap but when I got up he followed me to the door. I wouldn't say much has changed and hopefully for your sake, nothing will drastically change for you.

He probably will get livlier as he settles in, but you got yourself one adorable dog.
