Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Otis will be 9 weeks old on Sunday. I just weighed him and he weighs 14 pounds. I looked online for "standard" weights in Goldendoodles but couldn't find anything reliable ( I guess since the breed differs so much?).

Any thoughts on his weight? I think he's chubby. Everyone who meets him says. "Whoa--he's big!" and now I'm wondering if he really is big or if he's just average? I worry about weight since I'm a believer in the "trim dog, longer life" idea. The breeder was letting the litter eat on demand and I wonder if that's why he's big? For us, he's getting 1/2 cup of Orijen puppy twice a day.

He's a standard F1b.

Thanks for any insight! His first vet appointment is the 24th so I will be sure to discuss it with the vet then, but you good people tend to be more knowledgable anyway so I'm starting here! Lol. ;)

Wow he outgrew his parents by leaps and bounds! Does this happen often?

This seems very similar to Orwell's situation. Mom is 45 lbs and dad is 50 lbs. However, two grandparents are poodles and they could have been HUGE.

How big was Zack at 6 months?

At 6 months 37#, 12.5 months 75#, 1.5 years 82#

How old is Zack now?

Will be 6 in March. Was finished growing at 1.5.

I agree with Adina, Loki was 27lbs at 12 weeks and I remember being so concerned that I was feeding him to much- especially with him being my first dog. I've heard that a good rule of thumb is if you make a lose fist and run you fingers over your fisted fingers, that's what your dogs rib cage should feel like. You should be able to feel the ribs but not feel just bone and like wise if you can't feel any ribs then they are over weight. Hopefully that makes sense!

He is really on his growth spurt at this time.  Use that old rule of doubling the weight at 16 weeks and then adding a little (5 - 10 pounds).  It worked for all my puppies and I have had doodles from 50 pounds to 105 pounds.  Hard to tell by what the parents weigh but that is a starting point for your puppy.
