Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Gracie is 13 weeks and 30 lbs. Oh my goodness! I'm not sure how I feel about this. ;)
Anyone else have a doodle that weighed in close to Gracie around the same time frame? If so, how big did your doodle mature to?

My boy also seems to be on the larger end of doodle scale. In fact, he's not following the growth chart for doodles very well. At 6 months he was at the absolute MAXIMUM a labradoodle "can get." As a young pup and even now that think he is huge. He's 24.5 inches at the shoulder at 7 months and I'm weighing him in a couple hours. He was a few pounds under your dog, but mine has a lot more poodle in him so he's skinny (if you take away all the hair) and tall like a greyhound. Orwell seems to be taking the growth chart pattern of a larger breed. The rates just don't add up for a labradoodle or a goldendoodle.
By the way, he has exceeded the size of both his parents, so it is possible to have a much larger dog than was thought possible. I know other people on this forum have had it happen.
I'm glad you are okay with the size. Personally, like your husband, I LOVE huge dogs and was pleasantly surprised with my baby's growth.
By the way, when I first brought Orwell home, my mother thought I tricked her and actually brought home an Irish Wolfhound pup. ;)
I wanted an Irish Wolfhound too, but I can't have one while I still live at home. (: Next dog will definitely be an Irish Wolfhound.
He's 55 lbs right now. I think I exercise him too much. :P He's quite boney even though I feed him a truck load. That's probably just his puppiness though.
Totally! My pup definitely looked like an Irish Wolfhound too. I can understand your mother's confusion. He ended up 25 inches and 105 pounds. He was the best dog I have ever had, and I have had many.
Your guy must have been more lab-like. We just got our "losing puppy coat grooming" and I took him down short for the time being and my guy is so poodle it isn't even funny. He is an F2b, so it's to be expected. I can't wait for his hair to grow back...
It sounds like Gracie is going to be a BIG girl! She's beautiful! It will be fun to watch her grow. I kept track of Oscar's weight from 11 weeks on because he had huge paws and we were told by the breeder he'd probably get no bigger than 40lbs. At Gracie's age he was just over 23bs. He reached the projected 40lbs at about 5 months. He's just continued to grow and grow. Last weight at 2yrs 4 mos. was 73lbs.
The best way to calculate a standard doodle's mature weight is to take it's weight at 16 weeks, double it and add 5-10 pounds. It was a little off for Oscar. A little on the light side.
16 weeks: 29.4 lbs.
Estimated mature weight: 29.4 lbs. x 2 = 58.8 lbs. + 5-10 lbs = 63.8 - 68.8 lbs
You have to take into account whether your doodle has a poodle or retriever build, as that can make a big difference in mature weight.
