Winnie has a thick wavy coat, too. I have the purple Activet brush, which works pretty good.
Quite honestly, though, a good ol' $7.99 stainless steel comb is the tool that I use for 75% of my grooming. The other 25% is a double row undercoat rake. The rake worked awesome when she was going through the puppy-to-adult-coat transition, and I still use it about once a week to get rid of any loose hair. The only mats she has ever gotten are a few tiny ones around her ankles after wearing boots in the snow. I use the purple Activet to get those out.
I have the green, red and purple and have used all three. I used the green when Ned was a pup, the purple when he was matting the most. I went back to the green and use the red (which is the mat zapper) on the matted areas. I also use a comb - either a steel one or one called the Untangler which has rolling teeth.
The correct brush really depends upon the coat. The green is more flexible than the purple which is more flexible than the red. Ned has a poodle-thick coat that is more cottony. He mats easily. I can't really see Loki's coat clearly in your picture, but he looks less curly than Ned. If so, I would purchase the green and a good steel comb (these are cheap). THEN, down the line I would get another stiffer one if it is needed.
