Curious as to what brushes everyone uses and what type of coat your doodle has. Loki has a very thick wavy coat and I want to buy some of their brushes but I am not sure which I should get. I was thinking the green and red?

Thanks a lot guys, curious as to what works for everyone else!

Winnie has a thick wavy coat, too. I have the purple Activet brush, which works pretty good.

Quite honestly, though, a good ol' $7.99 stainless steel comb is the tool that I use for 75% of my grooming. The other 25% is a double row undercoat rake. The rake worked awesome when she was going through the puppy-to-adult-coat transition, and I still use it about once a week to get rid of any loose hair. The only mats she has ever gotten are a few tiny ones around her ankles after wearing boots in the snow. I use the purple Activet to get those out.

Willa has a very thick curly coat. I keep it long and have to groom her often. I purchased an expensive Les Pooches brush but it does not do the trick. I got an Evolution comb with rolling teeth (Amazon-less than $8) and use The Stuff after her bath, and line brushing along with Cowboy Magic for matts and that works beautifully! The comb gets all the dead hair and the rolling teeth allows it to glide through. I hold her hair at the roots and comb gently. I did ruin the first comb pulling too hard. They aren't made for heavy duty but for that price what did I expect. the new one has been perfect.

I have the green, red and purple and have used all three.  I used the green when Ned was a pup, the purple when he was matting the most.  I went back to the green and use the red (which is the mat zapper) on the matted areas.  I also use a comb - either a steel one or one called the Untangler which has rolling teeth.

Do you recommend I buy all three? Long story short this is the third time I've taken Loki to get groomed and he comes back looking more "poodly" than doodle each time. I've been very clear on what I want and tried different people in my area and would rather stop now before I waste more money. I've just decided to take matters into my own hands and groom him myself and therefor buy the "good stuff". I also I'm looking for great clipper recommendations, the one I bought from the pet store that they recommended for thick coats clearly wasn't meant for doodle-thick coats because the guard flew off in the middle of the first pass- would rather not repeat that!

The correct brush really depends upon the coat.  The green is more flexible than the purple which is more flexible than the red.  Ned has a poodle-thick coat that is more cottony.  He mats easily.  I can't really see Loki's coat clearly in your picture, but he looks less curly than Ned.  If so, I would purchase the green and a good steel comb (these are cheap). THEN, down the line I would get another stiffer one if it is needed.
